The Thing

Consciousness is the thing.

All of space has the capability

Of being perceived as matter.

God is the manifestation

Of consciousness in the perceived universe

Home (An old Poem I wrote!)

Home

Open
Was a hole in the ground
Where the leaves lay dark and damp and brown.
The soil there was moist
And smelled of rain and morning mist
And there I glanced
As I crept,
Crouching through the trees.
Darkened
Was the light of the Sun
Drifting down to where the night was won.
The morning was voiced
And sang of clouds
And the new day
And we danced to the music
A staggered dance.

This was her home,
This is where she lived her life.
Here is where the shadows lay.
This was her house,
Hidden long from me and mine.
Here is where I start my day.

As silent as I came
She was not to be caught so free,
There was no price to be paid
By one so obvious as me.

More Sticks

Upon the day the mist came down
A doom was set upon us.
There were distant whispers
In the weeks ahead
Flashing lights and murmurs
From the dead and their sticks.

The blind lady would say nothing
And she did not smile
And after a while
Some of us were sent
To search the seed of the doom
And to seek a mercy
For our insults of ignorance.

The Moon passed through the mist
And was remade whole
Before some more were leaving
To seek a word that was unheard,
Amiss.

Oh and how our doom grew heavy
And dark on all the days
With the mist in our blood
And our people away.

Not an eye did close at night
And not a dog did bray
As works were made of subtle shade
A molded from the clay
To find the day there'd be a way
To turn the thing away.

Then one night a shadow came
And spoke to me a secret name
And asked the names of those
Who would seek to bargain with a doom
And laughed for I could not speak for fear.

Nine dark leaves fell from his brow
And danced upon my floor,
Thirteen more from beard and mouth
And then fell seven more.

In the distant hills
To the north of here,
If you stand in red fern and stone,
Are six low mounds which can be seen
On most good days
And you could find
The wind would moan
Of doom and death
And of the bones
Of nine and twenty
Lost across a misty moor
And lying there forever.

Blind Lady (Repost too!)

After we met,

After we'd lived awhile in that place

That was her home,

We left together to seek someone she knew.

There were people all around in the night,

Some sitting,

Some standing in groups

There were fires and feats

And torches burning bright

Then she took me by the hand

And led me to a darkened caravan

Sitting on the step

The blind lady with long lank hair

Cried at the tragedy of it all

And asked if we were true

We held hands and laid them on her lap.

We cried

She smiled

And we knew we were blessed and true.

Then she spoke words into the night

And on until morning

All I have of her now

Is the sight of those sightless eyes

And a feeling of the essence of her

Words I cannot speak.

And I seek her still.

Clues! (Repost)

Clues!
Clues!
Little hints.
Sideways glances through the trees
And here am I
Standing at the lakeshore once again.
I don't know,
Are these tears here falling
Or could it be the rain?

Or could it be I'm in the water?
I don't know.
But here is the lakeshore
And I can see some feet dipping
And I am laughing on top of the hill
Remembering a flower pressed
And My heart love nearly flipping
At the mind of a wasp,
Light and filled with sweet smell,
Wishing it as well as I.

And maybe I was dying.

And the fires burned at my back
And I could hear the laughter,
I could hear the laughter
And the sweet song on their lips.
And I remember sinking boats,
Knowing they would never float
And someone with blood all on their face.

Then there was the goldfish
Where it never should have been,
Swimming there it didn't care
About the rules it had not seen.

And many friends of mine
did see me standing time to time
and some would laugh
and others cry
and some would merely catch my eye.
I wonder now if they see me still
when they close their eyes at night
as I close mine.
I wonder if they see me
laughing at the sky in the rain
with some words in my hand.

And there is fortune in the forests eyes
And truth for liars
And for lies
And in this water here there's truth,
The truth of my heart
And my age
And my youth.

(And we can bear forests roots!)

Spirit Moth (Repost)

There was a wailing in the air
And a moaning all around
And a roar began to grow
Within the ground.
The sky began to fall
And a banshee terror call
Began to tear the silence I had found.
There was nothing I could do,
No way I could be free
'til my lady turned her eyes anew
And gave her smile to me.

The leaves were falling from the trees
All through this empty land,
The fish were dying in the seas,
The gardens dried to sand.
There were children crying
Falling down,
The food refused to grow.
Abandoned dead and blighted towns
Along a rivers poison flow.

There were castles proud
And crumbled bold
And broken knights as well.
There were men who traded blood for gold
And goodly folk who fell.
There were wars of hate
For mighty gains,
Fought by ragged men in chains
And schemes and plots to win the world
And nations bent in pain.

And one dark day a Spirit Moth
All huge and full of blood,
Did fly to me all grim and brown
From out some summers wood
And long he did regard my eyes,
Defiant in the jar
And frightened I by this nights prize
Did watch him from afar .
Until he'd seen me long enough
And then I set him free
And my lady woke a long way off
And she did smile at me.

Then all around
The world grew bright
With morning new light view
And still I trembled at the sight
Of a sky so full of blue
And the birds all sang
Their morning song
And the people sang along
And my lady placed her hand in mine
And told me I belonged.

Coins For the Well

Wading waist high

And gasping for air,

Grabbing at cables

And going nowhere

There is nothing but debris

And shit all around,

Concrete and empty

Yet bursting with sound

Filthy white buildings

With thousands of doors,

Sign posts a pointing

But God knows what for.

The people are living,

The people are free!

You've got to be kidding,

You're not fooling me.

For what freedom is this?

What choice do we know?

Which prison to die in?

Which poison is slow?

And here in my hand

Is a coin for the well

For the people to take

If they've some food to sell

But the rot seems set in

Both sides of the spring

And there's nowhere to go,

No secrets to bring.

And the stupidest thing

That I ever was told,

Was getting a boat with

It's empty old hold

And cramming it full up

With butter and meat,

Prepacked and chilled

For some suckers to eat

In a far distant land

From a freezer shop shelf

I just don't understand

When you've got some yourself

The world's got a sickness

That's easy explained

And we have to witness

The madness and pain

Choked up and sucking

For all that we're worth,

Wasting up and fucking

The blighted old Earth

Society stinks

Like the corpse that it is,

Out on the brink

Where it hardly exists

Devouring itself

With a will fit to burst,

Grasping for wealth

When it's wealth that's the curse

Obese and struggling,

Drags its weight to the fridge,

Brags of fortune and glitter

Whilst it bitterly lives

On the crusts that the starving

Have dropped from their hands

Whilst the nations where carving

The life from their lands

And no need to mention

The outrage of war,

The thrust of invention,

The trust of the poor,

Betrayed and discarded

By those who pretend

That people are counted

By their governing friends

But friends they are not,

Except when in need

When you're needed a lot

To lay down for their greed

To stand up and take arms

Take a bullet or bomb,

To protect and to harm

When you're counted upon?

And it's logic hey hey

Ho hum twiddle thumb

From where did they get

That little nonsense one from?

Cos they're thrashing about

Like me and like you,

Trying to sort it all out

When they haven't a clue

Oh there are patterns and trends

Set by days gone before

But this thing is so big

It's not simple no more.

So do not believe a thing that you're told

By anyone trying,

The lie is so old

That it's worn out and blinded

By the days that have passed

And there's one of them minded

Just as long as it lasts,

For a day or a week

Or a precious few hours,

All that it matters is keeping the power.

To lie and keep lying

To all that will hear

And keep on denying

The truth through the years

I Could Try to Disguise

I could try to disguise the thing,

Close up my eyes and sing

Songs of a faraway place

But my love is nearer

You are hopelessly dearer too

And still I would picture your face.

So I'll keep my eyes open

With my love as a token

And I'll hold out my hands to you soon.

And if you stay with me

Through the night we will see

What will be with the light of the Moon.

It's been long that I've known you

And I hope that I've shown you

How things lie in the truth of my heart.

Because each time I see you

I just want to be near you

And I curse all the time we're apart.

Oh and what I would say

At the end of my days

If we'd never been close in the dance.

I'd surely shudder and cry

For the days flown on by,

For the days when my eyes closed on chance.

So I'll keep my eyes open,

Hold my love as that token

And I'll hold out my hand to you soon

And if you stay here with me,

Keeping close you will see

What could be with the dawn of the Moon

There is nothing in the Evening Still

There is nothing in the evening still

That could make me want to leave here

And precious be the eve that will

Decide you come with me dear.

The Sun goes down

Behind the land

And burns away the daylight

And speaks to me

It's time to go

And make good peace on this night.

Now if you sleep

And dream good dreams

And grow within your dreaming,

You may learn what waking means

And the life you are recieving.

And if you're waking,

Never still

And the night is full and weaving,

You watch the stars above until

The truth you can believe in.

And seeing echoes of the day

Within the light of morning,

To show you're dreaming anyway

Around the world reforming

And if you're waking through the night,

Don't despair at all your grieving,

Close your eyes and close them tight

And you'll be sure of your receiving.

The Enclosures Act

There was a day

When the people round here

Threw it all away,

Disease made them cast away

The past

And all the older ways

The cattle were dying,

The crops were bare,

The rich men saw the whole affair,

Said;

Hey there folks

Here's what to do,

We'll have a taste of something new!

We'll take the land and turn it round,

We've got no use for common ground.

So all you folks you've got no choice

Us gentry have the loudest voice,

So have your say

And meet in halls,

Tomorrow you'll be building walls.

Cos parliament is on our side

And this thing here is countrywide.

There's officialdom to view the land

And share it with an even hand.

But first consult

And then decide,

If not it would be suicide.

Two thirds is all have to agree

The future that has got to be

And now the landless can't keep their stock,

The foragers have had to work

In factories in towns so black

And now there'll be no turning back.

It is true that something had to change

But I'll tell you

It's bloody strange

How thousands, countless were displaced

To starve life stolen at the grace

Of monied, idealistic men

With greedy minds who shuddered when

They thought they may have missed a chance

Of profit

In which circumstance

They plotted

and they schemed

To fool the people with a dream

Of life in a modern age

Where hardship would be turned away

It is easy I know,

To doom a word in history

But somehow it goes

When you know it's the same old story

Of gains for a few

No matters what the poor man do

It never seems to change

If the rich man doesn't want it to

Enclosure's just a name

Like Poll tax, Bruce or old Hussein,

The real thing is it's just the same.

Someone lost and someone gained.

What did that little boy know?

What did that little boy know?
Who's caring for him now?
Why did nobody show him
What it's really all about?

The way he stood like he did
Not a care in his eyes
Just your own little kid
In a world full of lies.

Not a word was there said
better stay home in bed
All the tears you will shed
Make you wish you were dead.

What did that little boy know?
Who's lying to him now?
You ought to never go there
Did you hear them shout?

The way he looked like he did
When his feelings weren't hid,
Just like your own little kid
With a hope of his own!

Not a sign was there came
It's always the same
Hold your hand to the flame
They will burn you again.

Now I'm telling you
That when this sentence is through
I'll have something to say
Yes someone will pay
For the pretence and pain
All the hurt and the shame
The wrongs and the blame.

Somebody should have told him.

She Says (Repost)

She says,
Everything she loves will always leave her in the end,
One way or another,
Every lover every friend.
She says,
She hears her baby crying every night in every dream,
It's so hard to say goodbye to such a soul you've hardly seen.
She says,
The memories are vague enough to be completely wrong,
The touch was only touching,
She'd have known it all along.
She says,
I must be such a nothing now,
I never was so great,
One thing then another makes you want to spit at fate.
And she opens up her hands
And she looks the way she does
As if to understand it makes a difference to us.
She says,
I can see what you are saying,
I can see you making sense,
I believe we are all paying penance
I can do with no pretence.
Then she smiles a smile to compensate
The haunt within her eyes
And the gentleness that makes her great
Brings warmth to her goodbye.

I’m reposting this cos I have to!x

There is something shining in the midst of morning,

A star in the sky and a fresh of air

There is someone treading on the path that I am walking

And I know not why but I can see nobody there.

And I can smell the tortoise waking,

Blinking sleep into the night,

Hear the new years steps he's taking

With new fresh tortoise sight.

And I can hear the buds a bursting,

Sap and cell so sweet,

Blossom flowers and ancient towers

Where the seasons ends do meet.

In darkest nights they knew his tread

And placed his likeness at the head

Of walls of church

And holy made

This ancient one whose role replayed

A thousand cycles through

And waged a gargoyle war

To keep the spirits of the night at bay.

But even before

The planting of the tree of Glastonbury

And before the shores of Cornwall

Were submerged

And forests sank into the sea

He walked on every dragontrack

And bygone way of England.

And sometimes on a night like this

In wooded glade on rounded hill

You can sense his presence

Even still.

From rustle of leaf

To crack of twig,

To twist of moth

To nettles sting.

From blade of grass

And sparrows wings

And every fresh new growth that brings

A moments grace from winters face

That smiles and breathes the breath of spring,

Upon this green land reborn again

And bathed in Aprils quenching rain

That gives its life to everything

That grows and stirs and knows his name

And gives him power both wild and tame

To venture forth

And stalk the corn

And walk the green

And wear the thorn

And walk abroad this springtime morn.

And people in their homes this night

Will lock their doors and windows tight

And hang their tokens well in sight

Of blazing fire and candle bright.

But I will walk this path so dear

And feel his breath in awe not fear,

Of age and wisdom

Pure and strong,

Of the Green Mans Mantle

And his ancient song.

Moving on and on (Repost)

Moving On
Category: Writing and Poetry

There is nothing in this land that has not seen the springtime

There is no story we can throw away

These hills here growing grass among the footfolds we are treading

Will roll on we won't pass this way again

'cos we're moving on and on

Moving on and on

Each moment we are changing the songs we sing will never stay the same

There's something in the way we tread

The corners we are turning

That fills my heart a full with warming

As I hear my name

My name that she is calling

From the far place and the near one

And I know we'll never pass this way again

'cos we're moving on and on

Moving on and on

Each moment you are changing

It's hard but it's the way it's got to be

This land it grows and heaven knows

I hope it don't stop growing

And I hope that she can hear me just the same

And blessings be

On he and she

That's we

A blessing on they're growing

And adventure bright

And wondrous gifts to gain

A lesson plain

For all time

That around them all keeps flowing

For we will never come this way again

'cos we're moving on and on

Moving on and on

Each gift that we are sharing

And smiling bright at such a sight of lovely burden bearing

is something we forever keep

While through this land we're fairing

And having tried we know inside

we're anywhere we're caring.

This Is a Time of Frozen Years

This is a time of frozen years,

Of frozen years

Of chosen years.

This is a time of frozen years,

Unwilling

And wintered upon.

We'll lift up our hands and sing,

"Now is here,

Here is now,

Now is here.

This is the day we sing

Loud and clear,

The song and the singer are one!".

We'll take all our visions,

We'll take them to heart,

With nothing misgiven,

No eyes in the dark.

And there'll   be a welcome

And there'll be a word

And there'll be a beauty,

A rare one I've heard.

And this is the time of fortuitous years,

Of serious years,

Of delirious years,

This is the time of the vigorous years.

A dance of the days that are done.

We'll lift up our hands and sing,

"Now is here,

Here is now,

Now is here.

This is the time we sing

Loud and clear,

The paint and the canvass are one!".

We take all our fortunes

Well counted upon

With nothing but certain

Well certain and done.

And nothing is nothing

And never a day

And only your words say

What you have to say.

And only the secrets that you have to keep,

And only the teardrops that you have to weep

Need nothing to say 'cos you are where you are

And never could shiny be shiny that far.

And it's moonlit

And it's misty

And it's silver and blue

And stars in the sky

Glow shimmering through.

Touch without touch

And speech without speech,

Heart without heart,

Each beat within reach.

And this is a time of chosen years,

Of chosen years,

Of frozen years.

This is the time of chosen years.

The fool with his eye to the Sun.

We'll keep all the days and sing,

"Now is here,

Here is now.

Now is here!

In all of our days we'll sing

Loud and clear,

The love and the lover are one!".

Hey There Well It’s Something to See

Hey there well it's something to see,

Something in your eyes

And it's beauty to me.

Words that you are speaking

Have a life all of their own,

All the meanings you were seeking

In a moment have grown.

And it's wonder

And it's worth it

And it's what it's what we're about,

And it's hopeful

And it's truthful

And it's tempting to shout it out.

Playful

And it's humble

And it's curling your hair.

As you smile at me it's fond and free

A signal that you care.

And I was lost before you spoke

And showed your hopeful doubt.

Before the words you said were heard,

Before they tumbled out.

And 'though they seemed to amble by

And hinted far away,

I'll say to you who bore them true,

They'll be good to you some day.

For warm they were

And given true

To one who was in need

And gratefull I

Will always try

To pay them well my heed.

If You Look Towards Me Now

If you look towards me now

You may see what's there in time,

You could think it all deception or a shade.

There is much on the horizon,

Many mountains there to climb,

The reasons for this journey we have made.

And you really are mistaken

And you've gone and got me wrong

If you thought I'd leave you

Standing here alone

'Cos I thought it good as taken

Whereabouts we do belong

And I thought the understanding clear and known.

Sacred Marriage

Some form of the sacred wedding.

The house and cast had prepared for years.

A sense that all of their work was almost done.

There was talk of some strange tales

That some seemed to think that I should take the credit for

But I remembered little

But four word titles beginning with

"The Book of...."

A mix of old and new

In a huge kind of funhouse

Where I was to meet the bride

And there was some kind of nervousness

Amongst the inhabitants

About whether her father would be satisfied

He made some sort of medicine

And was well known for it,

But I didn't recognize or know,

Maybe a vitamin of a kind

I was lead by the cast

From room to room,

Usually accompanied

But occasionally left alone.

I think the bride would rather elope.

If I did stray alone

Somebody soon showed up.

Wooden barrels in dusty corridors.

The Great Clock room.

She told me something about

When she was to put the knife to my wrist.

We walked away up a lane

And I think we kissed a small kiss

But then we were walking back.

She spotted a man in dark

Working on something

At the corner of a dark, stone building.

Back in the house I was introduced,

Such other some beauty but few words.

Her father was not happy

And had to be restrained.

At times a black dog

Who took me there in the first

Was there.

Introduced to the cast

I recognized none but the pale man

I had seen years before,

Watching me from my living room chair.

Later

A beach

But the scene was not real.

I tried to follow her,

Thought it was over

But I was still in the house.

Black dots like flies from the cracks

And the skirting boards,

Spinning and congealing

Into black shapes with hints of color

As they grew and took form.

A voice called my name

And I said "I'm here!".

Another and I think it may have been her father's voice said,

"Now I'll have to turn all of my creatures into clocks!".

I fled the room to find

Some kind of mechanical crocodile outside the door.

I Have a Warning for You Now (Pome)

I have a warning for you now

Of a future stuffed indeed,

Of musty rooms

And darkened desks

And a strange and Spartan breed.

They dwell within the halls of dust

And drag the status quo

Upon wheels so slow

And thick with rust

That they hardly seem to go.

Closeted,

Despair filled folk

Who walk a narrow track,

The beaurocrats so hollow that

They always will turn back

At a master's call

From across the hall

Or a parchment passed by hand,

That gives a word

That must be heard

By all in its command.

To climb is life

And future's point

And all desire this grace.

To office high

And all anoint,

To think is pure disgrace,

When thoughts are new

And change the view

Of corridors of power,

There is no room

For all are doomed

Within the bolted tower.

In a tight shut drawer

Behind a door,

There lies the final form

Who's small print holds

The answer to all forms.

All the secrets that they have had.

It's the servants god

Who sets the terms

That define the sane as mad

And monitors the rest of death

And its pilgrims dull and sad.

So heed my words

And heed them well,

Take care,

Beware the day

You're presented with their contract

That

Will steal your life away.

Give Me Time

Give me time

And a purpose in mind

And I'll sing you a bit of a song.

About and about

I'll work it all out

And show you the place we belong.

Well I'm just here thinking

All the things that I'm thinking

And I'm hoping it don't get too bad,

Cos friends aren't real friends

'till they find in the end

The good times are up with the sad.

I Would Love to give a Word to You

I would love to give a word to you

To tell you you are part of every day for me.

I would like to walk out

Under that star

That is shining from afar

And breathe the cool night air

And hear the things that you would say to me.

Toad (repost)

How far the floppy toads of March,
With warty skin
This ode embarks.
To crawl through ditch
and muddy mire,
'neath sodden skies
And dripping briar.
To reach web footed,
Grasp wet leaves,
All damp and brown
Dismembered eaves.
To hope for April's warmer days
And greener trees
This toad he prays.

The Sky Ain’t Right

On borrowed internet!

I've started to think
That the sky is wrong,
It's not as wide
As it should be long.
I've started to think
That it's not quite right,
The dark ain't dark
And the light ain't bright.

Mystic Prince of Wheels

Mystic Prince of wheels
Turn your heels
Into a day without remorse,
Turn your heart towards
The water spirit's course
Of oneness,
Of oneness.

Oh Queen of sugar
Goddess of blood,
Draw for us
A future treasure scene
For us to dream
And let our spirits
Take their course
Of oneness,
Of oneness.

Bring us diamonds and pearls,
Dragons and shells,
Bells of airy beauty,
Angelic shanties
To raise and bend
The light serrated
View of your vision of night
Of oneness,
Of oneness.

Flowers

There is silence in the word that ends

And a light in the hope that fades,

No-one knows the form she holds

But I saw her in a wish we made.

She could have shown me something,

Something that I’m searching for

But she could not take me in,

I lacked the strength but not the need,

There was a time,

A time that I was near,

I stopped and turned away,

No will to deny my fear.

There is a word that silence ends

And a hope in the light that fades.

In attempt to reach the words and friends

It tips the wishes and the feelings out

Into the dark of doubt.

But the work of words can summon or send

Many things into being or silence

And the flower holds it’s hopes until the end,

Showing scent and colour to the storm.

A sign of hope for those cast out

To keep their words and their wishes warm.

The Foresters of Will (Repost)

The Foresters of will

Washed up on a continent of grace,

A faraway place,

The hidden face

Of a grander scheme,

Where meaning

Is a painting of a lovers eyes.

A picture for living in newer skies

And swimming in a pool of us.

And the foresters have no power,

No persuasion

Anywhere here.

Eager Spring

Eager Spring is waiting

Like a thing around the corner,

Light and soft

It’s image awaits

A pleasing vision of my mind.

Further on in time,

But not too far,

It’s smile casts a glance upon my eye,

Breathes a sigh

And flies on by my sight.

I see a shaft of blue

Shining through spring shade of green

And think;

Could it mean the bubbling stream

Won’t leave me here?

Eager Spring

Don’t sing your song tomorrow,

Eager Spring don’t sigh.

Keep your singing and I’ll follow,

Your dreamer passing by.

Every time I see you

I feel your pulsing heart,

Your smile grows new

And warm and near,

Then leaves me passing through.

Eager Spring,

Don’t sing your greeting song.

Eager Spring,

How long?

So soon you’ll sing your leaving song,

Don’t let the dream be gone.

Give Me This Day

Give me this day,

Give me a day above all days,

Give me a day when we call it all to play.

I had a day,

I held a day,

I saw a day that passed away.

I Hope you Understand (A Humpty Repost)

I hope you understand

My simple lack of words

But what words can be said

That I have to command?

We were turning apart

And a look of your eyes

Set a thousand kings horses

And men down to cry.

Keeping all that I have known

I've had days that I can see

When all the world was dark for me

And though the world looks set to blame,

I know that we can breath again.

I'm keeping all that I have known,

All the days,

The time that's flown.

I'm keeping all that I find true,

I'm keeping all these things and you.

When all comfort lay at bay

Waiting for the break of day

And not a fortune teller came,

I knew that we would be the same.

A forest fire in winter time,

A tree too high for me to climb

And though the wind does fan the flames

I know that we will rise again.

And through the foxes silent eyes

I hear the hunter's long reply

And though the hounds would not refrain

I know that we will live again.

And not a word you'll hear from me

If all the people could agree,

If all the world were free of pain

I know that we'd be free again.

I'm keeping all that I have known,

All the days,

The time that's flown.

I'm keeping all that I find true,

I'm keeping all these things and you.

I thought I'd find it hard to say

In the darkest of my days,

I find it best to say it plain,

I know that we will love again.

To amazed

To speak!

Just listen.

Relax.

Exactly a miracle!

Bird on the Ground

Picture of a bird

Lying dead on the ground.

Probably age

Or poison gas

Or something.

And another!

Higher flight,

Soon be out of sight

By miles and miles.

I remember

Being surrounded by smoke,

Sitting in a room.

(She was out of luck.).

Someone told me of hate,

Despair with hate.

(The Ogre's got him too.)

She couldn't understand why.

To die.

They wanted her to die.

Sidelong glances in the street

Like dead flesh in the heat.

My God!

What's she done to you?

People hate,

They seem to wait,

To bait,

To gloat at your despair.

(Even though she cares.).

You're wearing her down.

Another told me she was a machine

Discarding yesterday like a dream at sunrise.

A robot romeo shooting birds from the sky.

(But I know she cares!).

Yesterday,

In a house of nervous hello's,

A satellite of hope went down.

A light in the sky of an old dead world

That swung around

To start an unsure flight

To some new land.

By whose hand was she turned?

The bird in the grass was poisoned I guess,

But with bait planted by who?

You and I?

Do you realise she died?

And you could do nothing but sigh.

One more life left

With dead leaves in the pile.

When she flew to me

I said nothing

Bur just sadly smiled.

(But I care!).

I saw nothing with my eyes,

Nothing but lies.

Angles Wings

Sirius
She sparkles bright
In red and blue and green
And Mars he shines a steady light
And Betelgeuse,
Red gleam.

Angles smile and spread their wings,
True messengers that bring
The song that makes the sky turn round
And all the birds do sing.

We never went,
It's magic all this time we've spent.

To Flow with the River of Living-Repost

To flow with the river of living

Into the ocean of spirit,

Or as common deliverance would hold it,

Bestraggle the river of death.

Can you hear them thunder

All through the skies above

'pon great stallion chargers

With steaming fate filled breath?

And do you hear as they go by

The glory of their song

As their chariots wings draw spray

Up from the course they speed along?

And do they call a greeting call

To all upon the way,

To chill the heart

And turn the thoughts to play

Upon that dread filled day?

And do they turn and give word for you

Departing through the pain?

Say will there be another time

To pass this way again?

And as they smile and go from you

For sakes!

Do you implore,

Say will there be another time

To pass this way once more?

One of the Specters of Truth (Repost)

In a land of indefinite causes

You don't know where to wake in the morning,

You don't know what for

And certainly not why.

With mysterious forces

All secretly turning the things that you saw

When I closed up my eyes.

And really my dear

It is all oh so tragic,

This mixture We've here

That don't know no logic

And seems truly so

In fact it's the truest,

The newest fact is

It's truer than true.

But truth has a problem,

a classical bane,

Cos the speaker quite often

Keeps changing it's name.

And we're delving for clues

Right up to our armpits,

We're stretching out fingers

And tipping on toes.

Well my point of view is

Whatever you do is

The naming of truth

And that's just how it goes.

But here looking up

To the dust up above me,

I wonder whatever

Am I doing here?

And oh but oh shit

There are plenty of clues

That we scraped off the woodwork

And wore out our shoes.

But me I'm decidedly dumb

With my answers,

Pin pointing on nothing but blank all the time.

And you are you there?

Or was it your shadow

That was working beside me

To tie it all down?

And was it you shouting

Or someone quite separate

From separate worlds

Or a gap that was mine.

I will hold my eyes

And concentrate

And try to settle down,

I'll take a breath and calculate

I'll try to form a town.

I'll call it home and hold it close,

A country

And a world

And I'll take my truth

In hand as proof

Of a promise or a word

To drive my world into my head

And hold the whole thing down.

It may not be the truest truth

But it's the truest truth around.

Oswald’s Famous Players!(repost)

There were people flying kites with strings
And others from the town
With balls and brightly coloured things
That filled the air with sound.
The day that Oswalds players came
In their many shades of brown
To play the only worthy game
For folk of that renown.

Oswalds famous players
The were only beaten twice
The day they came to play us singing
"Are you men or mice?".
Oswalds famous players
Were the finest in the land
Their intention to dismay us
In their costumes looked so grand.

Billy Barnes's strings were strong
And flighty were his kites
With tails of over six feet long
They tested Oswalds might.
Our team it numbered eighty four
And theirs was ninety nine
Our geese were twelve and theres were more
But still we held the line.

Oswalds famous players
They were only beaten twice
The day they came to slay us
Well we made them pay the price.
Oswalds famous players
Seldom suffered such defeat
We had them by the artichokes
We had them in retreat.

But their tents were up in record time
Aunt Agnes lost her skirts
She slung her hook across their line
But it landed in the dirt.
But still old Aggie did all right
With help from uncle Bert
She used her skirts for three more kites
And saved us all from hurt.

Oswalds faomous players
Well they nearly had us beat
They said our huchback may as well
Hunch forwards in their seats.
Oswalds famous players
Well we made them eat their words
But they took that in their stride as well
Good fellows as we'd heard.

Old Harry with balloons and balls
Tim Bunkle and his goat
Frank Wilson and his crabs that crawled
And Bobbies bouncing boat.
The team that beat old Oswalds lot
All glory goes their way
But most to Aunty Agnes what
Had made us win the day.

Grimble Thorne Part Three

Now Grimble had never been one who knew a lot about work and he knew even less about being a farmer. So the farmer and his family could only watch in despair as the crops were neglected in the fields and the cattle were starving as Grimble sang and danced and ate his way through all of their stores. The youngest son of the farmer watched Grimble Thorne closer than the rest.....
Here needs to be said more of the voice of power that Grimble had possessed for a long time but in spite of this it was really not his voice. A consequence of this was its ability to cause Grimble all sorts of problems whist he slept. In the end and also a long time ago Grimble had taken to removing the voice at night and since he had been at the farm he had been putting it into a small box on the farmers bedside table. The youngest son had spent many nights on the windowsill watching and waiting for his chance. Then one very hot late summers night  Grimble was getting ready to retire and he opened the bedroom window before he got into bed and the smallest of the frogs jumped onto the bedroom floor. Then just as Grimble took out the voice the frog leapt with a mighty leap and with a quick flick of his sticky tongue had the prize from between Grimbles fingers and into his own mouth. Then before he could respond the youngest son used the voice to turn Grimble into a bullfrog and then threw him into the farm pond. He then quickly restored the form of the rest of his family who were overjoyed and filled with praise for the cleverness of the youngest son.

Grimble Thorne

Grimble Thorne with mighty scorn

Looked upon the farmer's corn

And said,

"What luck!"

And then,

"What glee!"

"It shall belong to me!".

Then off he went into the night

Beneath the farmer's window bright

And peered inside with creeping sight

That filled the folk within with fright.

The farmer reached out for his gun

And Grimble cried,

"Ho ho what fun!".

"With bulging eyes and bulging skin,

Make bullfrogs of the folk within!".

And the world it shuddered,

Filled with woe

And their normal form

Away did go

And all that was left of the folk within

Was a pile of wet, reptillian kin.

And Grimble laughed

And Grimble danced

And around them all

He heartily pranced,

Singing,

"Ho what fun!"

And

"Hey what glee!"

"It all belongs to me!".

Grimble Thorne (A bit more)

Once it was dark Grimble crept towards the farm. Nearing the farmhouse and seeing a light cast from a window there he peered inside to see the farmer, his wife and three sons. The family were sat eating supper around the table and upon seeing this Grimble cried, "Oh such sport!" and "Oh what fun!" and he shrieked with pleasure at the look on the peoples faces as they started at the sight and sound of him dancing in the light outside. As the farmer jumped up and made towards the door Grimble called out with his voice of power, "With bulging eyes and bumping skin, make bullfrogs of the folk within!". All at once their normal form away did go so that when Grimble entered the farmhouse all that was left inside were five large frogs. He then gathered the frogs up into a sack before bearing them outside and casting them into the farm pond before returning to the supper table where he ate and drank until his leather pot belly was fit to burst and he slept where he sat. The poor farmer and his family were left to spend the first of many nights huddled together, cold and miserable in the mud on the bank of the pond and were forced to subside on only such things as a frog can eat.

The Wreck of the Medusa (Repost)

Though we've been here for many days,

We're holding on and still we pray

For sight of land or distant sail

And our hope I fear to fail.

All  the holy cast their eyes

Into the depths we all despise,

Their faith so strong is shaken now

What faith does ever this allow?

And all the world it still must lie

Around us all, beneath this sky.

People live in their own way,

Folk who never chance to stray.

And the many fail to speak

Limbs too frail

And hearts too weak,

Too afraid to mark the few

With words that have no use.

And how will words remember us,

Our battered hopes and bitter thoughts,

When our flesh has long since gone

Would they curse the deeds we've done?

And for the few who stay alive,

For the ones that may survive,

We have a chance with every breath

Or bane for those that dance with death.

The Fountain Like the Fire

The fountain like the fire

He leaves her far behind,

She smiles her faintly knowing smile,

She knows what he will find.

She watches from the waiting land

Where no-one knows her name,

The car sits in the pouring rain

As it washes her away again.

She drives into the evening

With tears upon her hands,

Her head is filled with echoes

Like the rain upon the land.

She sees the tracing patterns

Of her words and his replies,

Like the drops upon the car windscreen

Spread out before her eyes.

And a heavy scented air,

Another glass of whiskey

And maybe just another day.

She sits down at the table

Amidst the writers tools

And writes her hard to come by words

Like a  child who sits at school.

She tells of all her misty dreams,

Her hand a hopefull hand

And prays through all her mist he sees

And he will understand.

The letter is a short one,

So sad and so precise,

He reads her heart deep spoken words

Out loud without a voice.

It carries him out through the night

To a house that's far away

And quietly shining moments there

Where they lay only yesterday.

Eyes speak across the table

As she speaks of loves long lost.

Hands are held like butterflies..............

Note from me:

Strange thing about this poem is that before the line

"And a heavy scented air"

There is another line but no matter how many times I try it always cames out invisible! Even if I try just that line in a separate blog! I don't get it either!

I've typed it out three times now and that bit is always invisible!

Grimble Thorne part one for Mary Margaret!

Grimble Thorne was a creature of older kin than mankind, he had lived for a very long time by their measure and unlike the times of this tale, had once been more fond of mischief than evil but that is another story. He was short and scrawny with dark, furrowed skin like bark and his head bore the likeness of the gargoyle creatures with which the churches were adorned, all pointed teeth and ears. Grimble was as fast on his feet as a hare, as nimble and even qicker of wit when he had need. Now Grimble had for himself a treasure which, although not truly strictly his to covet, he did so with a ruthless jealousy. This treasure was in the shape of a voice which had the power of command over the form of all things living and since he had therefore the ability to do what most pleased him Grimble saw no reason why this should not be so. That is why, when one bright day he came upon a green and pleasant valley and saw some farm buildings nestled there amongst fields of well tended crops and healthy cattle grazing, he thought to himself that the life of a farmer would be for him and this land should be his to tend. Then he sang to himself, "Ho ho what luck!" and then, "What glee! It shall belong to me!". At this he hid himself in a thicket until nightfall until under cover of darkness he crept towards the farm and seeing the light cast from a window there he moved closer.

Fog That Is

Every word
Everything I heard
Pieces of paper
Lost.

And the mist somewhere stirred.

That is a familiar voice
But what does it mean to me?
Should my heart leap
Or my spine creep?
I'm not sure anymore,
I'm exploring don't you see?

Well what's been happening with you?
Did the fog find you too?
Where you sailing along
Singing your song
When it suddenly strangled your view?

And over here,
Over here I'm certain
Is a spot that's been so dear to me,
Countless days I've waited
To see that she was near to me.

Oh fog!
I beat you,
I seek to cheat you,
I try to hold you to my dreams.
But what do you do?

You enclose me
But cannot hope to stop me.
You blind me
But cannot take away my sight.
You are wherever I am
But you have no will to wander.
You do nothing.
But still I squander anger on you.

Another voice oh gentle soul
That knows this fog
This shattered whole
And speaks alone to ears untrue
Upon a latenight blindsight show.

Is it you?
Is it you who knows?
I need not ask.
I could crawl along like this
And never find my path.
My task requires the merest hint of breeze,
To stir the mist
And this unease.

And I think I may have taken the past
And in some silly moment cast it to the wind
And now I find it's filled with clues
And the patterns of the future
And bound to me by countless knots
And so can never be so calmly lost.

I can see all words
And what lies behind
And they will come to me
And I them.

So now I choose myself a spot
As good a place as any
Within this cauldron we have got,
To wait along with many.
Until the mist does churn and lifts,
Disturbed by time that is
And shows to me a seasons gifts,
This awful fog that is.

'tis easy to know
And hard to believe
In the ebb and the flow
So hard to concieve
The energy here
All the words that he says
Evolutionary life
The choice of our days.

And what are your monsters?
From what do you run?
What changes did you make
For the days still to come?
Did your dream fall to pieces?
Was it ever around?
Was it ever so humdrum
So grinding and sad
Deathly and no fun
Just driving you mad,
Wastefull,
Ungrateful
And dragged on the ground?
Did you pray for a fog or a mist
To come down?

And now here you are,
Do you see me the same?
Am I just as you know me
Or one with my name?
And something inside me
Is convinced of the cause
For here standing beside me
Who's this girl who's got yours?

Does she see through the fog?
Could she help me get there?
Could she turn the whole thing?
Could she possibly care?

Does she look to me
With that hope in her eyes?
Oh God what can I do?
How can I give replies?

And his voice it was talking
Of lessons in life
And searching for answers
And reasons for strife
And me I was smiling
For I knew it was true.
It was ever so easy
And simple to do
And that is the answer
That I've waited for,
Belief in the end of this fog
And what's more,
This fog it is me
And this fog it is you,
All that we see
And all that we do.
We live it and breath it
This fog that we've made,
To work through
And warm to
And not feel afraid.

I Love the Lady

I love the lady

I can look long in the eye,

She has a smile for me

That lights our private sky.

She speaks and I am carried far,

Washed over by her song.

She calls me there

Without a word.

I know that I belong.

I love the lady

Who can touch me in that way,

She is lying close to me,

So close we fly away.

She breathes and I am filled

With sweet and oh so loving fire.

She fills my life

With love and hope

And makes my world entire.

She makes my world entire.

Dragonbox

Dragonbox am I and bold

And of an honoured clan,

White dragon and pale red black clouds

And gold is what I am.

Ancient in my form and craft

And fearsome to my foes,

Old as rock and deep as black

And still my legend grows.

Lightening for a sword have I

To strike a bitter blow

To any whose false words and lies

Do full and freely flow.

Vapours red and black indeed

To turn the cowards heart

And powers of the strength to bleed

Their courage from the start.

Dragonbox am I and proud

Strong paper binds my soul

To ancient words and chantings heard

That through the ages hold.

Devout in all my clans true wars

With words another spoke,

Here to roar and rage it out

Until his spell be broke.

Dragonboxes all are we

In this we have no shame,

Dragonbox is all we be

And ever be the same.

Fiecer in a battle none

And there shall never be

An enemy that does not yield

To dragonboxes we.

Today how I flow to You

Today, how I flow to you

A world, a hold

A timeless view

A kindling, sparkling

Me to you

Embrace and all and all for you

My dream and all I see

I give them all to you

Clouds and folds

And fluffy fields of flowers

Golds and greens

All in a dream for you

She Says

She says,
Everything she loves will always leave her in the end,
One way or another,
Every lover every friend.
She says,
She hears her baby crying every night in every dream,
It's so hard to say goodbye to such a soul you've hardly seen.
She says,
The memories are vague enough to be completely wrong,
The touch was only touching,
She'd have known it all along.
She says,
I must be such a nothing now,
I never was so great,
One thing then another makes you want to spit at fate.
And she opens up her hands
And she looks the way she does
As if to understand it makes a difference to us.
She says,
I can see what you are saying,
I can see you making sense,
I believe we are all paying penance
I can do with no pretence.
Then she smiles a smile to compensate
The haunt within her eyes
And the gentleness that makes her great
Brings warmth to her goodbye.

There is Distance (Another Repost!)

There is distance

There is time that's passed

There are things it's best to leave

When the days are catching up with you

And none can be retrieved

A silent world to comprehend

A life that lives to grieve

A sentence from a circumstance

That gives you no reprieve

And it's grim the hour that's granted

No gladness when it's due

Or when the time is able

But the precious word are few

So greet it all with grace to call

Each second into play

And speak to lovers sweetly

As they beckon you today.

Bomb Squad Picnic

I was recently driving with my daughter in Wales and took a detour to visit a standing stone that we failed to find but on the way there we spotted a bomb disposal lorry parked in a layby and apparently empty. We thought nothing of it at the time but on our way back to join our original route there was a sight that made us smile. On the other side of the road to the lorry in a lovely, green and flowery summer meadow next to a bend in the river were two bomb disposal guys in uniform sitting on a blanket supping wine from their glasses and eating a picnic! They had the full on picnic basket and the works! We wondered if they were on the way to a job and perhaps had a couple of hours to kill before the bomb went off!

Upon the Day the Mist Came Down ( A repost)

Upon the day the mist came down
A doom was set upon us.
There were distant whispers
In the weeks ahead,
Flashing lights and murmurs
From the dead and their sticks.

The blind lady would say nothing
And she did not smile.
Then after a while
Some of us were sent
To search the seed of the doom
And to seek a mercy
For our insults of ignorance.

The Moon passed through the mist
And was remade whole
Before some more were leaving
To seek a word that was unheard,
Amiss.

Oh and how our doom grew heavy
And dark on all the days
With the mist in our blood
And our people away.

Not an eye did close at night
And not a dog did bray
As works were made of subtle shade
A moulded from the clay,
To find the day there'd be a way
To turn the thing away.

Then one night a shadow came
And spoke to me a secret name
And asked the names of those
Who would seek to bargain with a doom
And laughed for I could not speak for fear.

Nine dark leaves fell from his brow
And danced upon my floor,
Thirteen more from beard and mouth
And then fell seven more.

In the distant hills
To the north of here,
If you stand in red fern and stone,
Are six low mounds which can be seen
On most good days
And you could find
The wind would moan
Of doom and death
And of the bones
Of nine and twenty
Lost across a mist moor
And lying there forever.

Purple Poisons

Purple poisons

Purple powers

Sacred purpose

Sacred hours

Yours are fortunes

Mine are yours

Ours are futures

Open doors

His is secret

Cannot tell

Hers is sounding

Ringing bell

Heart is pounding

Active cell

Spakling impulse

Wishing well

A hidden passion

A bidden spell

A holy mission

Private hell

And if you take a look

In that little bitty book

That is made up of the memory

That can never be mistook

You may think that you remember

You may never have forgot

But the Ogre is so hungry

He could empty out the pot

Yes he could decieve you

He could warp you with his words

You may believe it

But your thinking

Is absurd

He is talking on the telly

And he's smiling all the time

And if you're looking carefully

It's funny what you find

Yes hello there folks

I'm your host for the show tonight

I'm inane but I'm no mind

And I'll tell you fate is oh so kind

Cos look at me

It's quite quite right

I'm being rich

On the show tonight

I'm being bitch

And I'm being tight

I'm being sucking out the fight

I'm being sit and swill your brains

And spit them out

And down the drains

So look at me and you will see

The bestest thing for you to be

YES

Look at him

And sit and grin

And press those little buttons in

And wave goodbye

To the things that I

Am living for

And loving for

And watch it die

And watch it

Fried and served up

Ogre breakfast grind

A mushy little mind meal serial

A pumped out porridge

Of words and pictures

To be made a joke of

On some late night sensation

Giveaway game show

That's the way the world ends

That's the way the world ends

That's the way the world ends

Not with a bang

But with a buzzer

And a break for the adverts

In the way a world is borne

And nothing goes away.

Ten Weird things that have happened to you Tag! (Thanks Mer!x)

Ten Weird Things I have been tagged by Mer (Thanks Mer!x) and am therefore obliged to pass it on and so here are my ten weird things!1.

The Walkie Talkie Thing
When I was about thirteen or fourteen I had a friend who lived about a third to a half a mile away from my house at the top of the hill and we got hold of a pair of toy, single frequency walky talkies with the intention of talking to each other at night with them. It turned out though that they only had a range of two hundred metres at the most so after a few days we forgot about them and he kept his and I kept mine.
Later when I was around sixteen or seventeen I was bored one night in my bedroom, my room was at the front of my parents house and not overlooked from nearby as there is a green outside. I decided to have a rummage in my bedroom cupboard (about half tennish) and in amongst my stuff I found my old walkie talky which hadn't been used for at least two years. I switched it on expecting the battery to be dead and rotted but it crackled and worked and without thinking really I just said "Is anybody there?" and immediately I got an answer. Now my curtains were closed and I don't know how but this guy came on and he knew my name, which room I was in and what I had been doing. I took the radio downstairs to the kitchen to show my Mum and my sister and he told me who was in the room with me. The blinds at the front of the kitchen were closed and the back was overlooked by one window from the house behind which was our neighbors little brothers room. I was convinced that it was someone who knew me winding me up but couldn't figure out how. I went outside through the front door and around the left hand side of the house (it was an end terrace) and then away from the house along a path with a row of houses to my right and the railway embankment and trees to my left. My intention was to get somewhere where somebody who could see my house would not be able to see me. But the voice kept talking and was starting to get more teasing, I was about two hundred yards away from the house by now with a subway under the railway coming up on my left and he was taunting me that I wouldn't be able to find him. To tell the truth I was getting irritated by this point and I quite crossly demanded to know where he was and he laughed and said "Look up! I'm right above you!"
I looked up and saw nothing but a clear starry sky.
Now this bit sounds ridiculous but he said he had a magic helicopter and if I could find him I could have it. I went under the subway and lifted my arm in the air and he told me what I was doing. (I not sure that walkie talkie would normally work under there anyway). That was weird because there is no way anybody could see me in that subway. I came out the other side with him still talking and walked over a small hill to be out of sight of the railway and still he went on, it was about eleven o'clock by this time, he'd stopped being so taunting and I actually arranged to talk again at eleven the next night. He then announced that my sister was leaving the house to come and find me, then ten minutes later she turned up by which time I'd said goodbye and switched the radio off. There was no possible way that anybody who could see me could also see the front of my parents house. I then went home and went to sleep and afterwards for some reason I totally forgot about the next day arrangement and only really took notice of how strange it all was yonks later. Still puzzles me now.

2.

Around 1988-89 I lived with my wife to be at her mother's house in a village about ten miles from Nuneaton, it was an extended cottage and we had a piano downstairs. There were quite a few occurrences in that house and I will describe one of them.

One night when we had the house to ourselves I was in bed sleeping and became conscious of hearing music. At first I thought I was dreaming and just listened but slowly I became aware that I was awake and hearing the most incredible, fast, beautiful, intricate and lightly played music coming from the high notes on the piano downstairs. I woke my other half to make sure it was real and she could hear it too.

We sat in bed astonished for I don't know how long but at some point I decided I had to go and see. I got out of bed and went to the door. I put my hand on the brass round door handle and tried to turn it but it wouldn't budge and I stepped back in surprise. I then reached and grabbed the doorknob a second time and it turned easily but as soon as it did the music stopped. I went downstairs but the house was empty

3.

The Same House

When I was living in the same house as the incident with the piano which I have already posted there were a lot of other happenings and I've been meaning to post some more but sadly time has been lacking.

It was my wife's Mum's house and her Mum had a collection of antique clocks which were hung around in all of the rooms on the ground floor, I never saw any of these clocks working as they were mainly for display. One time when we had the house to ourselves because her Mum was living in Devon, My other half had been to work in the morning and I had gone to work on a 2 till 10 shift so hadn't seen her.

When I got home from work about half ten that night my wife opened the door and demanded to know what I had done to the clocks because when she got home from work they were all working, pendulums swinging and everything.

Another time I had a friend come to stay and the next morning he said he'd had a terrible night because every time he was dozing off, the light would come on, he tried switching it off several times but in the end gave up and slept under the covers.

Another time I returned from a late shift and only my wife was there and I saw someone looking out of the window upstairs, I waved because I assumed it was her but when I went in she was watching TV in the living room. Funny thing was the bedroom window was part of the extension and not part of the original cottage.

4.

I conducted a wedding ceremony in a stone circle last year.

5.

I once saw beams of light shining from a field into the sky around 3 in the morning, two concentric circles spinning and shining on the clouds, they were accompanied by loud booms like huge kettle drums. I remember being amazed that nobody was waking up in the dark houses around me! I went to investigate but it stopped before I could reach the spot and when I reached it there was nothing to be seen.

6.

At my last house I had a big framed picture of Winni-Ther- Pooh above my mantelpiece and one night when I was upstairs I heard a crash. When I got downstairs the picture had fallen and missed all of the many cluttered objects on the shelf and landed two feet into the room, face down with unbroken glass.

7.

I have a very good friend who once telephoned to say she was on the way round and as I put the phone down I thought, "I hope she doesn't crash!" . When she arrived at my door she looked pale and shaken and then told me she had had to swerve when a dog ran in front of her and she nearly did crash!

8.

I once dropped Bogart, my toy hedgehog, whilst hitch-hiking on a mountain road in Waleswithout noticing. I got him back the next day because two friends of mine came along the same stretch of road after me and found him! Still got him, he could write a book!

9.

I once got lost up a mountain in a blizzard with zero visibility wearing a pair of moccasins.

10.

I used to have the odd bit of sleep paralysis but not for years now!

And now I Tag…………………….

There is Something Shining in the Midst of Morning (Another repost!(I'm sooooo lazy!)).

There is something shining in the midst of morning,

A star in the sky and a fresh of air

There is someone treading on the path that I am walking

And I know not why but I can see nobody there.

And I can smell the tortoise waking,

Blinking sleep into the night,

Hear the New Year’s steps he's taking

With new fresh tortoise sight

And I can hear the buds a bursting,

Sap and cell so sweet,

Blossom flowers and ancient towers

Where the seasons’ ends do meet

In darkest nights they knew his tread

And placed his likeness at the head

Of walls of church

And holy made

This ancient one whose role replayed

A thousand cycles through

And waged a gargoyle war

To keep the spirits of the night at bay.

But even before

The planting of the tree of Glastonbury

And before the shores of Cornwall

Were submerged

And forests sank into the sea

He walked on every dragontrack

And bygone way of England.

And sometimes on a night like this

In wooded glade on rounded hill

You can sense his presence

Even still.

From rustle of leaf

To crack of twig,

To twist of moth

To nettles sting.

From blade of grass

And sparrows wings

And every fresh new growth that brings

A moments grace from winters face

That smiles and breathes the breath of spring,

Upon this green land reborn again

And bathed in Aprils quenching rain

That gives its life to everything

That grows and stirs and knows his name

And gives him power both wild and tame

To venture forth

And stalk the corn

And walk the green

And wear the thorn

And walk abroad this springtime morn.

And people in their homes this night

Will lock their doors and windows tight

And hang their tokens well in sight

Of blazing fire and candle bright.

But I will walk this path so dear

And feel his breath in awe not fear,

Of age and wisdom

Pure and strong,

Of the Green Mans Mantle

And his ancient song.

Blind Lady ( A repost because I have been busy!)

After we met,

After we'd lived awhile in that plce

That was her home,

We left together to seek someone she knew.

There were people all around in the night,

Some sitting,

Some standing in groups.

There were fires and feats

And torches burning bright.

Then she took me by the hand

And led me to a darkened caravan.

Sitting on the step

The blind lady with long lank hair

Cried at the tragedy of it all

And asked if we were true.

We held hands and laid them on her lap.

We cried

She smiled

And we knew we were blessed and true.

Then she spoke words into the night

And on until morning.

All I have of her now

Is the sight of those sightless eyes

And a feeling of the essence of her

Words I cannot speak.

And I seek her still.

I Was Waiting

And finally another band song by me!

I was waiting

I was waiting

Wrapped in darkness

I was waiting

But the signal never came

I was waiting

Lost my purpose

I was waiting

For the dawn to come again

I can't see you

You can't hear me

There is nothing to be seen

In this vision

There is nothing

No trace to show where I have been

I was waiting for my orders

I was waiting

But my orders never came

I was waiting

By the border

I was waiting

But the border stayed the same

I can't see you

You can't hear me

There is nothing to be seen

In this vision

There is nothing

No trace to show where I have been

Blind

Another band song not Pome by our old singer Amy Neale

Blind

Do you recognise

The sadness in my eyes

Two souls like dynamite

Just waiting to ignite

Do you remember

Those three little words

You used to say to me

Before you went blind

Do you remember

Those three little words

You used to say to me

Before you went blind

You used to love me

Just as much

But now there's hatred

In every touch

You used to look at me

With your adoring eyes

And now all I can see

Is your despise

Do you remember

Those three little words

You used to say to me

Before you went blind

Do you remember

Those three little words

You used to say to me

Before you went blind

Take Me On

Again not a pome but a song from my band I wrote 7 years back (Catchy tune too!)

Take Me On

Take me on

Everything could go wrong

Why does it take so long

When we try

Shines so bright

Everything in my sight

Why does it feel so right

Please tell me why

I'm Tired of waiting for you

What do you want me to say

So tired of waiting for you

How come we ended this way

Next time round

Maybe we won't come down

Maybe it all comes round

When we try

Next time round

Nothing will touch the ground

Nothing be lost or found

Please let me fly

I'm tired of waiting for you

What do you want me to say

So tired of waiting for you

How can we end it this way

Angels

Again not my own but one of my band’s songs written by our old singer Amy!

Through a dream came an angel,
Her eyes were brighter than daylight,
Her hair it shone like the morning Sun
And I knew I'd be safe tonight.

She spoke of lands over water
Where two hearts could beat
But first I must leave this world
And somehow find my peace.

Don't go,
It's not late.
I wake up and open my eyes
And she's gone.
She's gone.

A Pome by a Good Friend

These words are by a friend who is a little shy but I like and wondered if others may too?

It took a while
for me to see
how unhappy
i had been
i'd tried so hard
but every night
i knew deep down
it wasn't right

i made excuses,
hid the urge,
each time i did
i felt a surge
of stifled anger
in my head
but kept it quiet,
inside, instead

but now i've opened
up my thoughts
i know whose attention
i have sought
for it's not yours
its mine you see
i will never again
turn my back on me

The Sleeping Land (Repost)

A good night people of the sleeping land

A far bright echo of the seeing land

I pray for vision

Am given sight

A time for wishing

This dark still night.

No signs are brought

That I can see

No wisdom taught

This purer me

This further thought

This half truth prism

That has to be.

Oh nothing!

I reach for you

With my all but rarely caught love

Ah brighter!

Ah purer form

Formless here.

Oh but if my love and I

Should venture there.

Frosted land

Moonlit land

Where frozen flowers in my hand

Would shatter at a touch.

No cold

Just wonder and love.

Ah what spells we would cast!

Valves

An emergency stop,
A valve or a tap.
A manual overide
Or thermostat.
A stopcock or switch.
A safety cut-off.
A lever.
A plug to pull out.
I can't make this stop
Or even go on standby.
And couldn't even try.

Do we come this way again? Repost

To flow with the river of living

Into the ocean of spirit,

Or as common deliverance would hold it,

Bestraggle the river of death.

Can you hear them thunder

All through the skies above

'pon great stallion chargers

With steaming fate filled breath?

And do you hear as they go by

The glory of their song

As their chariots wings draw spray

Up from the course they speed along?

And do they call a greeting call

To all upon the way,

To chill the heart

And turn the thoughts to play

Upon that dread filled day?

And do they turn and give word for you

Departing through the pain?

Say will there be another time

To pass this way again?

And as they smile and go from you

For sakes!

Do you implore,

Say will there be another time

To pass this way once more?

Solstice Blog

As it is the Solstice time I have decided to talk about time and years instead of bashing out poems I and wish a grand Midsummer’s Eve to all!

From Genesis6:3
" And the Lord said, my spirit shall not strive with man forever, for that he is also flesh: yet shall his days be an hundred and twenty years."

The ancient Sumerians (Iraq) gave a period of 120 Sari or "divine years" equal to 43,200 years between the beginning of their civilisation and the Great Flood. Is it possible that the biblical quote above could be referring to divine years?
One Sari is equal to 360 mortal years which is the same as the length of the ancient Indian "divine year" described in the Puranas. It seems to have been a common belief in ancient times that creation had a set period of time to run, usually a decimal multiple of 2,160 or 4,320. The Puranas give a period of 432,000 years as the duration of our present age, the Kali Yuga, which is said to last 1,200 divine years. Thu, is it possible that the biblical compilers were referring to the length of a world age and not the expected maximum life-time of a post flood individual as is usually assumed? ("My spirit shall not strive with Man forever."). The previous Sumerian age had lasted, according to them, for 120 Sari.
Berosus gave a period of 2,160,000 years for the duration of creation or 6,000 Sari and good old Willy Blake maintained that the ancients believed that creation would last for 6,000 years. What type of year were they referring to, mortal or divine? Heraclitus gives 10,800 years ( a quarter of 43,200) and Berosus gave a length of 432,000 years for the Babylonian Great Year.
Just a thought.....
Have a great Solstice and watch the wheels turning!

Sing Me a Special Song

Sing me a special song,

Show me that I belong,

Tell me a tale about us all,

About a world so wide

With a universe inside,

A magic jungle visionary call.

As I walk in the city,

I think it's a pity,

How we waste our precious feelings all the time,

They are all in a rush

As they fumble and push,

A-treading under all the meanings as they climb.

And me I can't believe it,

I try my best to leave it

Cos I cannot seem to handle what they say.

My energy dies,

Makes me want to run and hide,

And I can't seem to do the thing that way.

There are

People what pooh pooh,

Ignore all the real truth

And get on with the profit and the grind,

Well I got to tell them

I got nothing to sell them,

Just a slightly different angle of the mind.

The Wreck of the Medusa (Repost)

Though we've been here for many days,

We're holding on and still we pray

For sight of land or distant sail

And our hope I fear to fail.

All  the holy cast their eyes

Into the depths we all despise,

Their faith so strong is shaken now

What faith does ever this allow?

And all the world it still must lie

Around us all, beneath this sky.

People live in their own way,

Folk who never chance to stray.

And the many fail to speak

Limbs too frail

And hearts too weak,

Too afraid to mark the few

With words that have no use.

And how will words remember us,

Our battered hopes and bitter thoughts,

When our flesh has long since gone

Would they curse the deeds we've done?

And for the few who stay alive,

For the ones that may survive,

We have a chance with every breath

Or bane for those that dance with death.

Take The Sky

Take the sky and rip it up,
Take the shards to make a book.
Fill it up with human words,
Make a lock to keep it shut.
All words a curse
We dream upon,
The secret verse the day has won.
Take the skin
And tear it off,
Take the flesh so pale and soft.
Kill it off with human works,
Make a charm to hold aloft
The sight of eyes
And sound of breath.
Cry at life
And laugh at death.
In all that is
There bleeds the trace
Of universe we won't replace.

St George

St George he stirs in his empire grave

With the cross of the Earth

And the damned and the brave

At his head.

At his feet

Lies the dog of the wars

With the bones of old Brutus

Clamped hard in his Jaw.

And the people will sing

And the people will shout,

The people will hope

And the people will doubt.

They'll call for an answer,

They think it will come,

There must be such fear

For the deeds that will come.

The Truth Hurts

I went to the drentist

With a terrible truthache,

He said he was glad I had come.

He said that my truth

Was all filled up with rot

Right down to the root of my glum.

It gave me a chill

When he drilled with his drill

And had a good wrench and a fiddle.

He left me a gap,

Then he fitted a cap

To my brand new false truth in the middle.

Storm on the Mountain

Earth, air, fire, water, rocky mountain dark and steep,

Canyons streaming down the craggy face

Like grooves on a record under electron microscope.

Flashes in the sky.

Billions of electrons,

Rain streaming from the mountains

And forests of clouds,

Falling from the sky in desperate,

Clawing need of Sea.

The tree looks dark and dead,

Glistening for a second

As lines of white and silver

Streak along the shining wet and crooked branches

Exposing drips,

Running and frantically scrambling and turning

To make a river to the mother of life,

Her vast heartbeat calling

And whispering her promise.

A dark cloaked form

Stands beside a black horse with no saddle

And smiles.

He knows the stones.

He knows the sea.

He sees the light of all

He sees the darkness of all.

And the rain

And the aging face of the mountain.

He can feel the sensation of all,

The beaten and tickled Earth

And the wind brushing itself against the forest.

A spider clings to his shattered web

At the base of the tree

And feels the warmth of the Sun

On daisies in a windless field.

With no Ceremony to Stand on

With no ceremony to stand on
I breathe you once again,
With old and full abandon
I hear that sweet refrain.
Right inside the core of me,
A place the tongue can't dwell,
Held in arms and lifted free,
I'm never known so well.

I never laughed,
I never cried,
I never lived
And never died.

The Wind Was Howling All About

The wind was howling all about,
The Banshee screamed her song,
The way was steep,
The storms of sleep
Did know me all along.
I lost the words,
Remembered hope,
Forgot what it could mean
And fought to cling on to that slope
But that was all the dream,
Not you.
That was all the dream.
And this is real.

What Magic Cause do You Defend?

What magic cause do you defend?
What stony scattered wars
With words that bend?
When you see the wild free eagle,
What forces you
To imprison flight in paper
And sell me insurance?

Oh and here you are,
A grisly remnant of a long dead age
That dominates even still.
Without hardly knowing
You push your sex mad
Power politics,
Your paper lies
And star burst bright and burning
Biggest buys
That try to pass themselves as truth.

Even your smile
Gives gaping opportunities
For violence,
Where a true gift
Is crushed between your maddened,
Brightly polished teeth
And swallowed deep within your laws
Or cast broken and torn,
Half starving,
At the dirty places you don't take your friends.
I'd love to know what you defend.

Brighton Beach

The tide is quietly going out
Whilst the camera clicks
Mock conquests of the high sea.
In all your life you know
I'm here below the sky.
I dreamt of you in nights gone by,
We're no strangers you and I.

I gaze on you and know despair.
It's like the rock that the defiant child
Hurls weakly at your waves.

And a stranger passes by,
Stops to chat a while.
From me he hears but few dreamy words
But I think through all my silence
He has heard.
Asks me for a light,
Leaves me his smoke
And I wonder at the gift
And he is gone.

What secrets do you hold
Far more precious than your sunken gold?
What thoughts stir in your deep cold heart
To send a greeting to me?

No Title

An atheist,
She came from South Africa in the forties
To do what she could in the struggle for freedom she thought
And she stayed.

They say I was ill,
But a voice spoke to me,
Not young or old,
Not male,
Not female,
But there was so much love!
So much.
I have been waiting
And I was told to tell you
That the world is going to end.
But not to worry
Because it will be so beautifull!
And there will be so much love.

Some sort of fit she had I was told,
I hadn't been there for two days
And she had said nothing coherent
But she spoke to me before she died.

I've Seen You in the Distant Woods

I've seen you in the distant woods,
I've seen you in the garden,
I've seen you in the greening buds
On dappled paths untrodden.
Within my heart you weave your spells
Of quality and of life,
Awakening in the ancient dells
The ring-a-bell and pipe.
I've seen you dancing in the glade
Where no thing comes unbidden,
I've seen your gracefullness cascade
In faces we've forgotten.
For you are the watchers of the forest gloom,
The silver singers of the ageless loom,
The oak leaf light,
The longest night,
The silent seers of the white, bright, Moon.
My eyes are but a song upon your lips
That tells of wondrous windless ships,
The flicker of the flashing brown wing tips
Of the sparrow,
To make an arrow of your words,
You speak of sorrow in tongues unheard.
The forests,
The forests,
Oh where are the greening ones?
The trees,
The trees,
The whisper voices gone.

Well I could weep and I could cry
For to know the reason why
And you would tell me
I should ask the weathered stones.
Well I wept and I did moan
And I asked the weathered stones
And they tell me I should leave the truth alone,
With their silence.
Oh where are the greening ones?

I have a sentence from the snail
And he says that I can't fail
As he slides and slowly says,
Go ask yourself!
This thing that you have made,
Go ask yourself.

Oh old ones who waken
In glad robes of green,
You know what was spoken
You know what was seen,
You bear no relation
To things that have been,
You can't have mistaken
These scenes that you dreamed.

A vision of the children
Lost and wandering across the globe,
The Mother a torn and wasted face
Dressed in tattered Mourning robes.

Oh but you are the shining ones,
The lonely undying ones.

Laden are the deer's horns
With wine to lift the growing corn.
Laden are the thrush's wings
With honey from the faerie rings.
Laden is the great whale's song
With echoes of the lifetimes long.
Laden is the turtle shell
With gold to fill the empty well.

Each time the cup is lifted
And poured into the next.

You speak with the squirrel
And he teaches you well,
Let the great bells ring
With the tales that you tell.

You speak with the wind
And it reaches to all,
Let the children sing
Of the universe call.

You speak with the grass
And it shows you the Earth,
The spells druid cast,
Conception and birth.

You speak with the stones
And they speak of the sky,
The circles and cycles
Of ages gone by.

Oh singer, singer,
Sing of the sap
And the acorn cup,
Sing of the life
And the loving look,
Sing of the living and the giving
And the leaves,
Sing of the waters
Where the wild wind feeds.

Sing a song of love.

Me and Prometheus

I never saw no fire,
I never touched no fire,
I never took no fire at all.

Me and Prometheus
Ain't got no communication,
Ain't got no contact,
Ain't got no contract.
I never even saw the guy at all.

I never saw no Gods,
I never touched no Gods,
I never took no fire at all.

Me and Prometheus,
We're from different times,
I'm no partner,
Had no part in it,
Ain't no partners in crime at all.

I never saw Olympus,
I never entered Olympus,
I never took no fire at all.

Me and Prometheus
Never took no fire
But I have to admire
The fact that he did it at all.

I'm a flying hippopotamus,

And suddenly I found,
Yes certainly I found,
I'm not an hippopotamus
That lives on the ground!

The Hand Grenade Farm

Along the edge of the field
As high as a tree,
The crates stacked up
In a wall I can see
All the fruit that was grown
On the hand grenade farm
Where they sow them and grow them
And keep them from harm.
They have to be fresh
and they have to be new,
For if they go bad then
They go bad for you
And if not picked fast then
They do not go soft,
They stay hard to the last
And then they go off.

Word

I'm afraid life has taken a hectic turn this week so I am being boring and reposting an old one until I have time to write more!

Word.

This is a word of power

Deep in the darkest depths of days

From in the desperate depths of black

And in the murky maze.

And I will speak with all I have

And all that I have not

To draw the word and make it live

And weave a future's knot.

It's essence is in entity

That breathes with every life

And sings in every soul that yearns

To know it's spirit's worth,

It grows in every wish and will

And true full bidden word

That echoes down the stream of time

The tongue that bayed its birth.

So, in all of speech is resonance

Eternal, filled with now

And a universe of influence

That all things does allow

And I will speak for all I am

And all that I am not,

Let forth a world to sow my world

And weave my future's knot

I've been tagged!

Well my friend Mary has tagged me so I am duty bound to pass it along and I'm not too sure I'll sleep too good with a tag diggin in me So here goes twelve useless facts about Daffy which is what you have to do and then pass it on to twelve others:-

1. I don't drive my car without my little brass horse shoe.

2.I don't like wet wood in the form of things like spoons and lollypop sticks, it gives me the eeby jeebies! I don't know why.

3.I worry about the earwig population, at one point I hadn't seen one for 5 years!

4.I find the washing machine far more soothing than TV.

5.I play right handed bass up-side down.

6.I love the smell of ransomes and the sight of bluebells in the woods.

7.I got a blackbird I talk to and so did my grandad.

8.My son also can't stand wet wood. It must be genetic!

9.I love Cader Idris!

10.I used to be a train spotter!

11.Like Mary I like to see old people holding hands and as my parents get older they seem to get closer.

12.I could find many more useless facts.

In the Dark a Flash of Light

In the dark a flash of light,

Music in the midst of night,

A rain of frogs to pound the plains

Like choked up logs they clog the drains.

The storm it rages in my ears,

No natural wind is this I fear

And when the night is over and done

The memories too will most be gone.

Strange these tricks out on the edge,

The Banshees song howls from the hedge,

To twist the soul and taunt the brain.

Can these two worlds be both the same?

From dreadfull loud and deathly drums

To fearfull clouds and awful hums,

Whenever sources can be found

No shadows move nor thoughts be bound.

And always we are oh so close

To everything we fear the most,

A whisper or a glimpse away,

A snatch of verse that will not stay.

Spider

Spider crawling up the wall,

Nasty beasties oh so tall,

Creeping beatles,

Snakes with wings,

You attract the strangest things!

Floating in an Acid Bath

Floating in an acid bath,
Soaking in your acid bath.
Hiding in your place
You're in the dark.
Thirty seven cousins left
Only one and three odd dozens left,
You're waiting in the cupboard in the dark.

Living in a vacuum there,
Soaking in a vacuum there,
Hiding at the back
You're in the dark.
Thirty seven cousins left,
Only one and three odd dozens left,
You're squashing with your cousins in the dark.

You're gonna get beaten,
You're gonna get bruised,
Crunched up and bitten,
You're gonna get chewed.
My sweet little onion,
Tis hard that your fate
Is to boil in my tummy
As I masticate.

Home

Open
Was a hole in the ground
Where the leaves lay dark and damp and brown.
The soil there was moist
And smelled of rain and morning mist
And there I glanced
As I crept,
Crouching through the trees.
Darkened
Was the light of the Sun
Drifting down to where the night was won.
The morning was voiced
And sang of clouds
And the new day
And we danced to the music
A staggered dance.

This was her home,
This is where she lived her life.
Here is where the shadows lay.
This was her house,
Hidden long from me and mine.
Here is where I start my day.

As silent as I came
She was not to be caught so free,
There was no price to be paid
By one so obvious as me.

In our Song

In our song
"We were sitting on the bus
In the front seat at the top.....
And going way past our stop."
In my dream before I met you
I was in the back seat at the top
And panicked as I never knew
Where I should get off.

Snippety Creature

I'm a snippety creature
And I have all my toes,
On the end of my legs
Where stuff like that goes,
I've got fingers a plenty,
Intestines galore,
Tis my teeth that are lacking,
I've only got four.
The first was lost sadly whilst taking a bite
From an armour clad chap who got lost one wet night,
He stumbled upon my black bog of a home,
Took a dislike to me,
Picked up a stone
And he dropped it!
The cad.
While snoozing I was
And it wounded me bad in the pride all because
It's not pretty to see
A creature like me
With his head flattened out
So ignobly.
So I bit him!
And hard.
Stuck my choppers right in.
But I left a great molar lost deep in his shin.

And that was the first but by no means the last,
I'm afraid days of chewing have long since chewed past.
With one in a carrot and one in a log,
Two in a parrot
And three in a frog,
There's one in a nomad a roamin around
And two in a pocket found lost on the ground.
The rest they were stolen when I was asleep
And the ones here remaining
I'm intending to keep.

In Every Breath

In every breath
And every thought,
In every passing moment caught,
In all I say,
In all I do,
Each minute of the day there's you.

You are the worlds mirror,
The measure of my life,
The ghost of me passed through the glass
And watches from your eyes.
My lady.
So far from this place
And all of its twists and shady ways,
Its gifts and empty plays,
Seeming shallow strengths
And promises
That irrelevence is all there is
When it all boils down
And reverence for what it is we've found
And held wherever I may be bound.

In me is a spirit
That would make the best of any day,
Confused it holds the rest at bay.
And now I fight against the flow
To find a day that I may find some peace in me.
But still in every breath I take
And every single move I make
You are there
And do not please mistake
The truth of where I'd go for you,
If so was your will.
I'd leave here still to find our peace.

Memory

Memory has flooded
There's no way to hold the tide
You opened up the sluice
And now there's nowhere left to hide.

Memory has opened
Like a prisoners new day
And wakened in the new worlds light
A storm to cast away.

Memory has shattered
A curse is blown to dust
And we are left with peace and love
And a monument of trust.

15 May 2007

There

There
Amongst the ghosts and grass
There was a waiting
Lying lovely thing
That warmed to who we are
Breathed a stillness to the day
And said
This is where we are
And we never dreamed this day at all

Remember

Remember when you used to dream a summers day?
Remember how you couldn't bear to be away.
When we were here and they were there
An no-one cared to knock it all astray.

Those days you used to smile
And you thought the poison
Could be smelled and not breathed
And we didn't dare to look
At what they were really saying,
Distant chatterings just before our hearing.

And so many were getting on with it,
So many joining in our song,
We thought a summers day would last forever,
Not fade away in years so long.

Single Pure Thing

Single pure thing
Object of perfectness.
Perfect angle
Perfect shape
Flawless reflection and
Absorbtion of light.

What colour are you?
What is your size?
Where are your movements?
Where do you hide?

Defining the Undefinable (Multiple Poegasm entry)

Here is my entry but don't just look at mine for there are fine poets throughout the Poegasm!
Vote now at Jé Mavericks Multiple Poegasm 2.0, Round 14!!!

There is forests of fortune in time to be found,
Complex and lovely, infinitely bound
With bonds forged of beauty the slightest of threads,
The strength of the future, the truest of webs
And never an ocean was as endless and deep,
Eternal, in motion, the boundaries of sleep.
Caught in a spell of the most ancient kind,
The roving unmoving reflection of mind
That rides with all winds, crosses borders of time
And embaces all things dreaming angels and signs.
Directionless purpose, the drift of an age,
Unchanging its patterns shift the words from the page.
It pulses with life and the beating of hearts,
The relation of essence,
No end and no start.
Spirit and spirit, the spark and the eye,
The measure of being, the beginnings of sky.
Warm without warmth and deep without depth,
The birth of the storm and the drawing of breath.
This is the distance and this is the span,
This is the dream and the meaning of one.
This is the reason and this is the why,
This is the presence too true to deny.

There is no kind of limit.
There is no sort of rule.
No Stopping,
No staying,
No dying at all.

You could see it in a moment passing by

You Could See it in a Moment Passing By (Repost for Battle of the Poets)

You could see it in a moment passing by

You could miss it in the blinking of an eye

You could touch it if you had not any hands

You could hear it in the sighing of a sigh

And nowhere closer to the truth is anywhere you are

And you have just yourself for proof

No better proof by far

Each age is nearer to you now

Than ever could be thought

A light that seems so limited

By a span that seems so short

And always is the longest time

And never has no source

The centuries unpredictable

No chance to chart the course

So do not be lulled by histories

They're not so long ago

And nor are possibilities

And forests yet to grow

And spirits from the times that are

And places just the same

The layered vast eternities

The namer and the named

Look towards all time and now

To bless it all there is

And hold it in a circumstance

To mark it with a kiss

Star

I watched a star rise in the sky
It climbed so fast as time flew by
The night it wheels around so fast
It is so quick these days fly past.

9 May 2007

Tree

Ah tree, there you are,
One twisted crabby hand
That tickles this side of the sky.
Silver birch with moss on my side,
A scattering of green growth
And just the last
Gently curling leaves.
Small yellow bird hops silently
Among your outstretched fingers,
Thinking perhaps of
How still seems this morning.
Like skin on an elephant
Or the folds in a cloak
Your reason extends
Beyond that first seen.
If you were to walk
Where would we go?

Now Come Down Here

Now come down here and sit beside me,
I've words to say and news to pass your way
And you are small but not too small to see
That there is something in the air
That was not before today
And it will lead to changes
That you cannot understand,
But you will learn it by and by
The love that we command
And treasure every spark of life
That anyone should send,
Be it one you know
Or one to grow,
You'll embrace it in the end.

What Place is This

What place is this
That holds me bound
To dream and promise only found
In this bright spirits
Time and care,
That keeps my heart
From roaming there?

Here has not been kept for others,
Myself alone,
For friends and lovers.
The beauty would be hard to see,
The magic there unknown to me,
It seemed my purpose to discover,
I must save it for another.

My eyes alone would not suffice,
My sense percieve
Nor guess the price.
My ears not hear,
My mind not know,
If I was alone to go.

The empty world does watch and wait
Whilst changing dreams do hesitate
And as the journey there unfolds
I sigh for all the hopes we hold.

Everybodies Drug

There is a space within a corner
Where the terror doesn't sleep.
There is a driven thing
A living thing
That cannot be ignored.
You can face it as a shadow,
You can take it with a shrug,
Insidious,
It's everywhere,
It's everybodies drug.

Chun

Out in the wide hills
Where the sea salt lingers
And the heather spreads,
The footpath marked
With white painted rocks
Leads the traveller,
Weary and slowed
By the glare of the Sun on the slopes
Into an older world
Through  fallen gates
Where long ago the walls stood proud,
Although they're standing still
And though overgrown
And only the home of bees
And wildflowers,
The power of this place
Is present even now.

Throughout the lands about
A stranger can be seen
From miles away
And all around.
And inside the walls,
There is no sound
That stirs or startles,
Nothing out of place or unstill,
A hush that seems to honour
Peoples who
Are long since gone to some new land.
But if you stand
And listen to the silence there,
You can hear the life
And smell the woodsmoke
And feel the mark these folk did make
On this old hill,
Forsaken by these newer times
And know inside
There is something there,
Something that is not erased
By years and days and centuries.
But as the centuries of belief go by
It lingers on though folk deny
The worthiness and grace
That such a place does hold.
Something not obvious and bold,
That crushes nations
Or destroys a soul,
But subtle slow like permanence
That works and flows coincidence,
That hints at life
And does not end
It moves like breath
Within the land
And sighs through death
And slides like sand
Through hearts that try to understand.

There are two tall stones
That mark the gates
And an outer wall
To guard the homes.
A well
And last across the way
A quoit in which to quietly lay
The bones of those who came that way.

It was there I journeyed one bright day
To where the towns are far away
And not a soul to see in sight
For miles around the white stone quoit.
There I sat and felt the Sun
And touched the earth
And pondered on
The life in me and everyone,
The things that grow
And ages gone,
My love and all the life she has
And future days our child would have.

Then voices came across the moor
And people came from London four,
Smoking smiling talking more
Who knew not what they journeyed for.

They gave out good and warming cheer
To strangers we who lingered there
And touched the stone without a care
All sat inside and unaware.

And slowly then a hush came down,
Familiar stillness newly found.
The reason for our journey clear
Did waken then and true appear.
For me to witness silence there
Among the stones and hills so wild.

And though my words
And meanings stray
I hope the heart is there to find
Of that old and oh so lovely place
And something of a shred or trace
Of the spirit of our ancient race,
To stir within the heart and mind
And in the hills and heather bind
Some glad regard and vastness sure
To hint at what we journey for.

Swamp Thing

Swamp thing
Slime thing
What say you changeling?
Flicking tail & tongue
Blending in with
Advantagious cover
One thing then another
And another
And another
What's to be discovered
In so many colours
And which is you
Chameleon?

I Would Always Speak Good Words of You

I would always speak good words of you
And how you fill my heart
With music warm
And friendship true
A smiling through the storm.
All the life you give to me
And to the world as well
Is surely blessed
It's got to be
And gratefully I'll tell
Of how your laughter lifted me
When I was oh so low,
't was such a golden gift so free
And glorious to know
And fortune fell upon me true
It fell so true indeed
The years I've had such friends as you
In good times and in need!

Uncertain Prince with Fortitude

Uncertain prince with fortitude
Comes charging through the day,
With blessings from the multitude
That crowd along the way.
He has no fiery attitude,
He has no foe to blame.
He has no greed or gratitude,
No good or gold to gain.

They say there is no dragon here,
No fiend for me to slay
But something has to happen here
Before another day.

There's reason when the hope has gone
To quietly light the way
And pages with their stories on
Will ever have their say.
There's fury from the fiery Sun
That has no point of view,
There's dark before the day is done
So what's a prince to do?

A prince may survey all his lands
And all the riches there at hand,
All the few and noble grand,
All the wealth at his command
But of all the wonders he may see,
The ones he lacks
Are given free.

My House for Tea

Well there ain't no bigfoot
It's a bear you know,
I have it on authority,
He keeps 'em all a guessing
Everywhere he goes
And he's coming 'round to my place for tea.
(With them footy things attatched to his feet.)

And there ain't no fairies
Anymore you know,
No fairies in the garden for sure,
People keep on looking
But it's hopeless you know
'cos they're queing up for tea at my door.
(I got fairies from my ceiling to my floor!)

Well there ain't no Man-in-the-Moon
You know,
He don't live there anymore you see,
He got a new apartment
Several years ago
And he's coming 'round to my place for tea.
(Just as long as no-one give him any cheese!)

And there ain't no Jack-in-the-Green
You know
And not even a Jack-in-the-Box,
He came on 'round to my place
And he screamed
"HALLO!"
"How come you got no tea in the pot?"

Well I said that I was sorry
That my pot o' tea was not
But my earlier guests
Had drank with zest,
In fact they'd had the lot.

It was just then a knock I heard,
A sturdy knock and true
And a voice said
"Hey I'd like a word!
"I'd like a word with you"
And would you know outside my door
A dragon spoke to me
Saying
"Could you?"
"Would you?"
"Just for me
"Please spare a cup of tea?"

I sadly smiled and shook my head,
My heart all filled with woe
And told where all my jam and bread
And pots of tea did go.

Well the dragon he just smiled some more
And said
"Well ne'er you mind,
You just get the pot and pour,
Methinks in there some tea you'll find!"

Inside meanwhile things weren't so good,
Put politely if you please,
The Balrog was demanding blood
And the fairies wanted cheese.
The Man O' the Moon was not amused
And did tell the Wee Folk so
And Jack was still demanding tea
And standing on some toes.
The bear was not too keen on that
And neither were the gnomes.
Amidst it all the troll he sat
Benignly chewing stones.

Well the dragon and me
We made the tea
And very quickly poured it
And the crowd it did see
And exploded with glee
And they all cried out loud to applaud it.

Well the dragon be told
He was not very old
As a dragon he'd get a lot older
But the Fairy Queen she
Was older than he
But not wiser and that's what he told her
And he scolded them all
The short and the tall,
His manner was terribly grave.
He said
"When you call,
Wipe your feet in the hall.
Once inside you should always behave!"

Well they shuffled around
and all stared at the ground
And they murmured together
"We're sorry!"
And they washed all the cups
And they dried them all up
And then handed the kettle to Polly
And I got the hint
And I gave her a wink
And she set it at once for the boil.
After all did I say
For this work I must pay,
You deserve some reward for your toil.

With order restored
We drank tea some more
And everyone had a nice time,
Till they all turned to say
At the end of the day
They would like for to sing me a rhyme.
It was simple and true
And a nice thing to do,
No nicer thing could a bloke wish.
It's words they were few
And the rhyme that ensued
Went a little bit something like this.

"Oh thanks for the tea
And ta for the cha,
Oh thanks for the pour of your pot
And thanks for the brew
That we gurgled with you
Yes thanks for the lot that we got.

Oh thanks for the tea
And ta for the cha
Oh thanks for the stuff you was mashing,
Oh thanks for the brew
That we supped up with you
It really was ever so smashing."

There were tears in our eyes
As we all said goodbye
All happy with how it all ends
And glad we sing praise
To the glory of days
Spending time with the friendship of friends.

And next week we go,
Though you're not s'posed to know,
To a modest and comfortable home.
Yes we're going 'round
But don't spread it around,
For tea with ol' Gnorman the Gnome.

One Aspect of the Goddess (Repost)

She can smile

And she can shine her eyes,

A shine that blues the sky,

A brightness that can call a wingless heart to flight.

A thousand tears

Could not damp her beauty

Or the need for her to shine.

And she cries

And weeps for life

And a prize I've lost

And never will I lose the sight of her.

She is Earth and

She is sky,

She is wood and hill,

She is sweet of taste

And warm of touch

And deep as darkest night sky still.

She marks her world with soft blue touches

And leaves her sweetness there

And shadows of the sight of her

They flicker everywhere.

One aspect of the Goddess

A changing lovely thing,

A terrible strength

That binds the sands

Of being and everything.

And this I say

And hope it's well

And all that's there to say,

I hope she stays deep in my soul,

My life and all my days.

The Piano Downstairs

In 1988-89 I live with my wife to be at her mother's house in a village about ten miles from Nuneaton, it was an extended cottage and we had a piano downstairs. There were many strange occurrences in that house and I will describe one of them.

I woke my girlfriend to make sure it was real and she could hear it too.

Hold up the Lantern

Hold up the lantern
Let me see it all
Let me see the beauty
Before the light does fall.

I thought that there was
Someone reaching for me
Saw the shadows and the moon
But there was only seeking for me
And the night was over soon.

And a message given me
Said
All I give I give for free
It's warm and pure and true
Hold me here and don't let go
And I will fly with you.

And dear bright Moon was shining down
She lit the room and all around
I saw her there she made no sound
With soft white lines along her back
Breathing moving lightly down.

If only she would have me touch
Let me run my fingers down
And as a cloud spreads fingers through the air
The light does fade
And I close my eyes
And turn to sleep again.

Piles and Piles of Smiles

Piles and piles of smiles
And cieling tiles
They're all I see
When you're with me
I never quite decided
Where I'd rather be
Cos you make me grin
And being where we bin
I'm not too concerned about
Any place we're in.

What a Funny Thing

What a funny thing
And I never knew it was
A thing that could occur
Well it happened and
You know I knew at once
And nothing could deter
I could not deter it
You know I couldn't dissuade it
But no matter what you accuse me of
It never was me that made it.

Tractors

I'm afraid it seems all a bit silly today!

I used to follow tractors
I'd got tractors by the score
I used to follow tractors
But I don't anymore
I used to follow tractors
But no longer feel I can
In fact I think that makes me
An ex-tractor fan!

Oswalds Famous Players

There were people flying kites with strings
And others from the town
With balls and brightly coloured things
That filled the air with sound.
The day that Oswalds players came
In their many shades of brown
To play the only worthy game
For folk of that renown.

Oswalds famous players
The were only beaten twice
The day they came to play us singing
"Are you men or mice?".
Oswalds famous players
Were the finest in the land
Their intention to dismay us
In their costumes looked so grand.

Billy Barnes's strings were strong
And flighty were his kites
With tails of over six feet long
They tested Oswalds might.
Our team it numbered eighty four
And theirs was ninety nine
Our geese were twelve and theres were more
But still we held the line.

Oswalds famous players
They were only beaten twice
The day they came to slay us
Well we made them pay the price.
Oswalds famous players
Seldom suffered such defeat
We had them by the artichokes
We had them in retreat.

But their tents were up in record time
Aunt Agnes lost her skirts
She slung her hook across their line
But it landed in the dirt.
But still old Aggie did all right
With help from uncle Bert
She used her skirts for three more kites
And saved us all from hurt.

Oswalds faomous players
Well they nearly had us beat
They said our huchback may as well
Hunch forwards in their seats.
Oswalds famous players
Well we made them eat their words
But they took that in their stride as well
Good fellows as we'd heard.

Old Harry with balloons and balls
Tim Bunkle and his goat
Frank Wilson and his crabs that crawled
And Bobbies bouncing boat.
The team that beat old Oswalds lot
All glory goes their way
But most to Aunty Agnes what
Had made us win the day.

And What Would They Think

And what would they think
Of the past looking back
From a future?
See their shadows cast
Upon a place of shattered grace
And beauty without bounds?

Yes reaching back
Through ages black
This shame that would shudder
If ever it be found.

A wise man
Old and ancient more
That knows no more but love
Would gazing deeply
Through his dream
Where being is enough,
Cast shades of doubt
And tears about
And other weary stuff
And filled with woe
Back home he'd go,
A sad and long rebuff.

Dorothy

I can see a light grow in the East
And you are sleeping now at last
And though your dreams be troubled
May they bring you some repass.
Today may all the strength in you
Be sure to see you through,
As all the hopes of all you know
Are dreaming with you too.

The Walkie Talkie Thing

Walkie Talkie Thing
I've never tried to write this down before but it really did happen and I've never sussed what was really going on.
Here goes

I switched it on expecting the battery to be dead and rotted but it crackled and worked and without thinking really I just said " Is anybody there?" and immediately I got an answer. Now my curtains were closed and I don't know how but this guy came on and he knew my name, which room I was in and what I had been doing. I took the radio downstairs to the kitchen to show my Mum and my sister and he told me who was in the room with me. The blinds at the front of the kitchen were closed and the back was overlooked by one window from the house behind which was our neighbours little brothers room.
The was no possible way that anybody who could see me could also see the front of my parents house. I then went home and went to sleep and aterwards for some reason I totally forgot about the next day arrangement and only really took notice of how strange it all was yonks later. Still puzzles me now.

Economic Progress

Economic progress
Trees say breathe
Eloquence for prowess
Clouds say drink
Politition talking of the next election
Mountains watching evolution
Talking of the life pollution
People drinking television.
The stream carries stories
Of the clouds
To the darkness of the ocean
The pound is down two points
Interest is raised
And interest is lost
Newspapers talk of the cause and the cost
While the oceans remain
And the Moon's still the same.

Fog That Is

Every word
Everything I heard
Pieces of paper
Lost.

And the mist somewhere stirred.

That is a familiar voice
But what does it mean to me?
Should my heart leap
Or my spine creep?
I'm not sure anymore,
I'm exploring don't you see?

Well what's been happening with you?
Did the fog find you too?
Where you sailing along
Singing your song
When it suddenly strangled your view?

And over here,
Over here I'm certain
Is a spot that's been so dear to me,
Countless days I've waited
To see that she was near to me.

Oh fog!
I beat you,
I seek to cheat you,
I try to hold you to my dreams.
But what do you do?

You enclose me
But cannot hope to stop me.
You blind me
But cannot take away my sight.
You are wherever I am
But you have no will to wander.
You do nothing.
But still I squander anger on you.

Another voice oh gentle soul
That knows this fog
This shattered whole
And speaks alone to ears untrue
Upon a latenight blindsight show.

Is it you?
Is it you who knows?
I need not ask.
I could crawl along like this
And never find my path.
My task requires the merest hint of breeze,
To stir the mist
And this unease.

And I think I may have taken the past
And in some silly moment cast it to the wind
And now I find it's filled with clues
And the patterns of the future
And bound to me by countless knots
And so can never be so calmly lost.

I can see all words
And what lies behind
And they will come to me
And I them.

So now I choose myself a spot
As good a place as any
Within this cauldron we have got,
To wait along with many.
Until the mist does churn and lifts,
Disturbed by time that is
And shows to me a seasons gifts,
This awful fog that is.

'tis easy to know
And hard to believe
In the ebb and the flow
So hard to concieve
The energy here
All the words that he says
Evolutionary life
The choice of our days.

And what are your monsters?
From what do you run?
What changes did you make
For the days still to come?
Did your dream fall to pieces?
Was it ever around?
Was it ever so humdrum
So grinding and sad
Deathly and no fun
Just driving you mad,
Wastefull,
Ungrateful
And dragged on the ground?
Did you pray for a fog or a mist
To come down?

And now here you are,
Do you see me the same?
Am I just as you know me
Or one with my name?
And something inside me
Is convinced of the cause
For here standing beside me
Who's this girl who's got yours?

Does she see through the fog?
Could she help me get there?
Could she turn the whole thing?
Could she possibly care?

Does she look to me
With that hope in her eyes?
Oh God what can I do?
How can I give replies?

And his voice it was talking
Of lessons in life
And searching for answers
And reasons for strife
And me I was smiling
For I knew it was true.
It was ever so easy
And simple to do
And that is the answer
That I've waited for,
Belief in the end of this fog
And what's more,
This fog it is me
And this fog it is you,
All that we see
And all that we do.
We live it and breath it
This fog that we've made,
To work through
And warm to
And not feel afraid.

In Search of the Summer Land

Dark on the hillsides
The shadows of clouds above,
The wind it does howl
Not a cry can be loud enough.

The land it is dying
And no-one is hearing us,
We are losing the Summer Land.
This is the time
When the people are gathering.
This is the time
When we dance in the night.
This is the time
When the songs are awakening.
This is the time when the land is in sight.
The singer has lost all the words
And is floundering,
The vision has gone
And the children are wandering,
The wisdom obscured
In the eyes of the children
In search of the Summer Land.

Clues

Clues!
Clues!
Little hints.
Sideways glances through the trees
And here am I
Standing at the lakeshore once again.
I don't know,
Are these tears here falling
Or could it be the rain?

Or could it be I'm in the water?
I don't know.
But here is the lakeshore
And I can see some feet dipping
And I am laughing on top of the hill
Remembering a flower pressed
And My heartlove nearly flipping
At the mind of a wasp,
Light and filled with sweetsmell,
Wishing it as well as I.

And maybe I was dying.

And the fires burned at my back
And I could hear the laughter,
I could hear the laughter
And the sweetsong on their lips.
And I remember sinking boats,
Knowing they would never float
And someone with blood all on their face.

Then there was the goldfish
Where it never should have been,
Swimming there it didn't care
About the rules it had not seen.

And many friends of mine
Did see me standing time to time
And some would laugh
And others cry
And some would merely catch my eye.
I wonder now if they see me still
When they close their eyes at night
As I close mine.
I wonder if they see me
Laughing at the sky in the rain
With some words in my hand.

And there is fortune in the forests eyes
And truth for liars
And for lies
And in this water here there's truth,
The truth of my heart
And my age
And my youth.

(And we can bear forests roots!)

Means of Exchange

It is not means of exchange
That makes us civilized and human,
Animals have means of exchange.
The hawk exchanges the life of a mouse
For continuance.
What distinguishes us from animals is when we
Share and give with no exchange involved.

It's Hard to Move

It's hard to move
I cannot say
Or seek to soothe
I cannot stay
I cannot touch
Or try too much
Or take too much
It's hard to stop
It's hard to know
It's hard to tell
What's there to tell
It's hard to give
And hard to take
It's hard to have
This love we make.

I Think I've Come to See You Today

I think I've come to see you today
To give a little anxiety away
And fill your cup to the top,
Hoping it might stop me going crazy.

It's such a shady way
To spend a day,
So if you say so I will leave,
Just go away.
But if you seem to see me
In a welcoming eye,
That may at such parting,
In secret cry,
I think I'll stay.

Climatics

Smell
Air
Sun
World
  Roundness.
Agency of grass,
Policy of dirt,
Economy of oxygen,
Climatics of ecstacy,
Curling the corners of everything.

Who Put that Smile There?

Who put that smile there?
Who put their soul before my eyes,
My being a silver spread
In distant skies?
I held the crystal,
I was life.
Infinity was me.
She spanned the dark horizon
From side to side
And we were life,
A star that was all stars
Smiling through her hair.
The Sunburst
Born first
With everything.

Spirit Moth

There was a wailing in the air
And a moaning all around
And a roar began to grow
Within the ground.
The sky began to fall
And a banshee terror call
Began to tear the silence I had found.
There was nothing I could do,
No way I could be free
'til my lady turned her eyes snew
And gave her smile to me.

The leaves were falling from the trees
All through this empty land,
The fish were dying in the seas,
The gardens dried to sand.
There were children crying
Falling down,
The food refused to grow.
Abandoned dead and blighted towns
Along a rivers poison flow.

There were castles proud
And crumbled bold
And broken knights as well.
There were men who traded blood for gold
And goodly folk who fell.
There were wars of hate
For mighty gains,
Fought by ragged men in chains
And schemes and plots to win the world
And nations bent in pain.

And one dark day a Spirit Moth
All huge and full of blood,
Did fly to me all grim and brown
From out some summers wood
And long he did regard my eyes,
Defiant in the jar
And frightened I by this nights prize
Did watch him from afar .
Until he'd seen me long enough
And then I set him free
And my lady woke a long way off
And she did smile at me.

Then all around
The world grew bright
With morning new light view
And still I trembled at the sight
Of a sky so full of blue
And the birds all sang
Their morning song
And the people sang along
And my lady placed her hand in mine
And told me I belonged.

Upon the Day the Mist Came Down

Upon the day the mist came down
A doom was set upon us.
There were distant whispers
In the weeks ahead
Flashing lights and murmurs
From the dead and their sticks.

The blind lady would say nothing
And she did not smile
And after a while
Some of us were sent
To search the seed of the doom
And to seek a mercy
For our insults of ignorance.

The Moon passed through the mist
And was remade whole
Before some more were leaving
To seek a word that was unheard,
Amiss.

Oh and how our doom grew heavy
And dark on all the days
With the mist in our blood
And our people away.

Not an eye did close at night
And not a dog did bray
As works were made of subtle shade
A moulded from the clay
To find the day there'd be a way
To turn the thing away.

Then one night a shadow came
And spoke to me a secret name
And asked the names of those
Who would seek to bargain with a doom
And laughed for I could not speak for fear.

Nine dark leaves fell from his brow
And danced upon my floor,
Thirteen more from beard and mouth
And then fell seven more.

In the distant hills
To the north of here,
If you stand in red fern and stone,
Are six low mounds which can be seen
On most good days
And you could find
The wind would moan
Of doom and death
And of the bones
Of nine and twenty
Lost across a mist moor
And lying there forever.

Defining the Undefinable

Long at the Start

Long at the start
And short at the end,
Burden to some,
To others a friend.

Beginning a marvel,
The warmest of hands,
The last is a question
No Answer commands.

Uncertain aspects
Strange tangles
Differing in respect
To randomness and rigidy
Soft focus
Pastel
The positive effect of shade
You made

Lily and Me

Lily and me

We went down to the sea

For to find us a peace long time lost,

To walk in the Sun

In the place we had won

And forget all that counting the cost.

We'd have supper alone

In a neat little room,

Warmed with candles

And scented with may.

She'd smile her sweet smile

And we'd pause for a while

To remember the best of our days.

She was there she was waiting

After long months apart,

After crawling and fighting

And losing all heart

And she was the sweetest

That ever could be,

That day on the dockside

Waiting for me.

And we came here that night

and we lay on the sand

And we gazed at the waves

Without words.

Filled with sadness

And gladness

And sorrow and glee,

Each knowing the other had heard.

Till the water crept slow

And we made our retreat,

Hand in hand

At the end of an age,

Back to our little room

Dimly lit by the moon

And made love honey scented with may.

And it's here we returned

After seasons had turned

And left us alone once again.

It was in her last year

And a time I hold dear,

A time when she lifted the pain.

The children had grown,

Fought a war of their own,

Known heartbreak and joy

Such as we

And when we were here

She said no more tears,

Not this time,

It's how it should be.

And here on the beach

I can feel she's in reach,

I can see her waist high in the sea.

I can see her right there

Run a comb through her hair,

See her footprints and know she's with me.

And here by the shore

I don't feel anymore,

So alone and so empty afraid,

She's here once again

No tears and no pain,

She's here with the best of our days.

Fishes

I'm sitting with the fishes on my own,

I'm singing with the fishes all alone.

My knees are wet

My feet is cold,

I can't forget

A heart of gold

And this is what I've got to call my home.

I'm sitting with the fishes all around,

I'm singing with the fishes,

I'm not down.

Until the water's at my chin

I won't let them fishes in,

Until the water gets there I'll not drown.

27 Apr 2007

I was Heading for the Harbour

I was heading for the harbour

With my pack upon my back,

My feet were sore

My temper much the same.

My song were all of thunder

I refrained from turning back

And the road before me held no better claim.

There are things to speak of freedom

And the choices to be made,

There are things to make you

Want to stay at home,

But mostly it's a ragged game

Of do what you can do

Whilst seeking out the things to call your own.

It was then I met an old old man

Who was sitting watching me.

He said he knew me very well indeed.

My face he'd never seen before

Nor ever heard my voice.

I bade farewell and thought to take no heed.

There are things to make you crazy

And the moon grows full and round,

There are things to make you glad to be alone,

But mostly they are there I've found

To show what you can do

Whilst seeking out the things to call your own.

He was quick and he was nimble

As he danced around my step,

I said farewell and hurried on again,

But from out behind some brambles

Came his laugh I won't forget

About a mile from where I left him in the lane.

He said

You've always been a dreamer,

Did you think me just a dream?

His eyes were bright,

His laughter high and wild.

He said

I am a seemer

And am more than what I seem,

Now listen to my memories my child.

I remember how it feels

To walk away and turn your back,

I remember how it feels to be in chains.

I remember when the Sun set

On the fortunes that you lack,

I remember how the skies recieved the blame.

I said

You're speaking nonsense,

You know nothing but yourself,

There are no meanings you can give to me.

Your actions are a symptom

Of the numbness of your age,

Or a madness it seems to me to be.

And sudden then he grew in size

And took me in his hand,

He held me level with his eyes

And crushed me into sand.

A million tiny grains or more

And every one was me.

He said I hope to make you understand,

You always have been free.

Your bitter mind

I think you'll find

Casts doubt on all those dreams,

It's truth

Or why should we be here my dear?

To Fear?

Or so it seems.

Then with one great howling breath

He blew the sand away

And scattered on the wind I flew

Into the darkening day.

He said

Dreams are dreams or so it seems,

Tis you that has the way.

And what would you decide to do

If it's you that has the say?

I was meadows

I was winter

I was sky and gathered moss.

I was nettles

I was water

I was powder on a wasp.

I was root

And I was barley,

I was gnawing on the grain,

A mouse within a ruined house,

A shelter from the rain.

I was paper in a book I read,

The reader of the words.

I was the sound of things I'd said

That never should be heard.

I was eyes that watched my harshest ways

And arms that held me still,

The space between those far of days

When wonder filled my will.

I was tiny

I was seeded,

I was carried with the rain.

I was spider I was cobweb,

I was walking once again.

I was walking I was running,

I was running through the dark.

I was laughing

I was crying,

Through my silence I could hearken to

The whispers of the world of all

And the slowness of the Age,

The wonder of the gentle fall

Of snow too soft to guage.

And in the quietness of the night

I held his eyes within my sight

And as they faded from my view

I closed my own and thanked him true

And lying there upon the ground

I fell into a sleep too deep to dream at all.

One of the Spectres of Truth

In a land of undefinate causes

You don't know where to wake in the morning,

You don't know what for

And certainly not why.

With mysterious forces

All secretly turning the things that you saw

When I closed up my eyes.

And really my dear

It is all oh so tragic,

This mixture We've here

That don't know no logic

And seems truly so

In fact it's the truest,

The newest fact is

It's truer than true.

But truth has a problem,

a classical bane,

Cos the speaker quite often

Keeps changing it's name.

And we're delving for clues

Right up to our armpits,

We're stretching out fingers

And tipping on toes.

Well my point of view is

Whatever you do is

The naming of truth

And that's just how it goes.

But here looking up

To the dust up above me,

I wonder whatever

Am I doing here?

And oh but oh shit

There are plenty of clues

That we scraped off the woodwork

And wore out our shoes.

But me I'm decidedly dumb

With my answers,

Pin pointing on nothing but blank all the time.

And you are you there?

Or was it your shadow

That was working beside me

To tie it all down?

And was it you shouting

Or someone quite separate

From separate worlds

Or a gap that was mine.

I will hold my eyes

And concentrate

And try to settle down,

I'll take a breath and calculate

I'll try to form a town.

I'll call it home and hold it close,

A country

And a world

And I'll take my truth

In hand as proof

Of a promise or a word

To drive my world into my head

And hold the whole thing down.

It may not be the truest truth

But it's the truest truth around.

May

There is no refinement

To cast upon this day,

Nothing done but for to scent

The sweetest scent of May.

Blackthorn in blossom

Towards the longest day,

Hardly forgotten

Within the seasons play.

Building strength of nature

Maturing through the Spring,

Towards the time the Sun endures

And a season’s fortune brings.

26 Apr 2007

There is Something Shining in the Midst of Morning

There is something shining in the midst of morning,

A star in the sky and a fresh of air.

There is someone treading on the path that I am walking

And I know not why but I can see nobody there.

And I can smell the tortoise waking,

Blinking sleep into the night,

Hear the new years steps he's taking

With new fresh tortoise sight.

And I can hear the buds a bursting,

Sap and cell so sweet,

Blossom flowers and ancient towers

Where the seasons ends do meet.

In darkest nights they knew his tread

And placed his likeness at the head

Of walls of church

And holy made

This ancient one whose role replayed

A thousand cycles through

And waged a gargoyle war

To keep the spirits of the night at bay.

But even before

The planting of the tree of Glastonbury

And before the shores of Cornwall

Were submerged

And forests sank into the sea

He walked on every dragontrack

And bygone way of England.

And sometimes on a night like this

In wooded glade on rounded hill

You can sense his presence

Even still.

From rustle of leaf

To crack of twig,

To twist of moth

To nettles sting.

From blade of grass

And sparrows wings

And every fresh new growth that brings

A moments grace from winters face

That smiles and breathes the breath of spring,

Upon this green land reborn again

And bathed in Aprils quenching rain

That gives its life to everything

That grows and stirs and knows his name

And gives him power both wild and tame

To venture forth

And stalk the corn

And walk the green

And wear the thorn

And walk abroad this springtime morn.

And people in their homes this night

Will lock their doors and windows tight

And hang their tokens well in sight

Of blazing fire and candle bright.

But I will walk this path so dear

And feel his breath in awe not fear,

Of age and wisdom

Pure and strong,

Of the Green Mans Mantle

And his ancient song.

Norice Breakwater Brown

Norice Breakwater Brown

Live in a backwater town

Untill he decided one day

To go to a place far away,

So he picked up his bags with a whistle

That was fresh from the mould of the clay the clay

And boarded a seafaring vessel

All docked up in the bay the bay.

Now some folks said it couldn't be done,

They said it couldn't be possle,

To carry your bags to a vessel at bay

With only a new pot whistle.

Well Norice just grinned as he boarded the ship

And he placed his whistle up to his lips

And with a mighty blow he blew for them all

And all of them danced

Both tiny and tall.

And off he sailed out to the sea,

Spent many weeks aboard did he,

'til one day the Captain came

And chucked him off,

Turned round again

And steered his ship back to the land

And left poor Norice

All  underhand

And overarm

And sinking.

Well Norice just bubbled on his pipe

And a chummy dolphin sussed his plight,

He swam up close said,

"How does mate?

Is someone using you for bait?"

Norice said,

"Go get the law!

The Captains slung me overboard!"

The dolphin said,

"You've no chance here,

Cos no-one chooses that career.

I think the thing for me to do

Is swim ashore and carry you."

Norice gratefull in his need

Told the dolphin he agreed.

His whistle clinging to his sack

He climbed upon the dolphins back.

The dolphin left him on the land

Where greeted Brown a marching band,

They played a merry melody

And in the music he could see

A magic land where he could be

And Dolphy said,

"Now for a fee,

I'll tell the journey there to thee!

That whistle there is worth the price,

In fact for that I'd tell it twice."

Well Norice gazed into the view

And knew at once what he should do.

The Dolphin smiled and said,

"Ok!

You'll kick yourself!

That pipe you'll play

And all at once you'll float away!"

Well Norice did as he was told

And his mind and world did fold,

It carried him out to his home

And left him free and all alone.

And everybody thought him dead,

But in the sea at night it's said,

If in the water you should go

You can hear his ghostly whistle blow!

She Cries

She cries, she cries,

Sitting sideward

Amid the browning leaves

And butterflies.

Small hands are held

To hide the teary eyes.

Her dream is like the wind in Autumn skies,

rusty, mottled,

Light and full of rolls and folds

Covered well in dark October golds.

It bears her hair

Like a babe within its arms

And whispers soft

With pictures young and old.

Black it is

And slow in a tumbling way,

It carries her sadness

Almost to the ground.

She cries, she cries.

I know her despair,

I'm sure I do.

I'm sure I've felt it every Summers day,

Every plane that drones its lonely way

Across the sky.

But why?

Why?

There is grace in those tears

Beyond those soft white hands,

There is a beauty borne of sadness,

The beauty of the land.

In Search of Spectres pt

I came here to look for spectres

And that is what I found,

From waters deep

And depths of sleep

They drift from all around.

There is this rock that lies before me

And it hurts me to percieve

The half remembered warmth I feel

But somehow can't retrieve

And it was all so long ago

The sky was bluer then,

The dreams we shared

Just half aware

Just whispers in the rain.

You Hung My Eyes

You hung my eyes with wisdom cries

Of Earth and life.

You caused my head to look around

To see what you had found.

A scattered heart

A smothered mind,

Oh drag those feelings down.

You said no tear that you could cry

Would ever come from me.

With eyes so clear like crystal ice

Not ever could I be.

With a me is I but we are we

Look around so you can see,

Not a tear that runs down from your eye

Will ever come from me.

Blind Lady

After we met,

After we'd lived awhile in that plce

That was her home,

We left together to seek someone she knew.

There were people all around in the night,

Some sitting,

Some standing in groups.

There were fires and feats

And torches burning bright.

Then she took me by the hand

And led me to a darkened caravan.

Sitting on the step

The blind lady with long lank hair

Cried at the tragedy of it all

And asked if we were true.

We held hands and laid them on her lap.

We cried

She smiled

And we knew we were blessed and true.

Then she spoke words into the night

And on until morning.

All I have of her now

Is the sight of those sightless eyes

And a feeling of the essence of her

Words I cannot speak.

And I seek her still.

The Dreamy Whale Head Bed Song

At the end of the day

When your thoughts float away

Can you show me the things in your head?

Are you thinking of me

Or the fish in the sea

As your legs carry you to your bed?

Do you think of the whales

With the boats on their tales?

Do you think of the fears

With no words that they have?

Or do you think with a sigh

Of the planes in the sky?

Do the thoughts that flow by

Make you sad?

And as your dreams

Make pictures and scenes

To tell you the story of day,

Do you move in my head

As you lie in your bed

With your eyes tightly closed far away?

Mouse

The mouse with iron claws

Rakes the crystal eggshell world,

A killer beast with talons curled,

Great gashes in the fabric.

One Aspect of the Goddess

She can smile

And she can shine her eyes,

A shine that blues the sky,

A brightness that can call a wingless heart to flight.

A thousand tears

Could not damp her beauty

Or the need for her to shine.

And she cries

And weeps for life

And a prize I've lost

And never will I lose the sight of her.

She is Earth and

She is sky,

She is wood and hill,

She is sweet of taste

And warm of touch

And deep as darkest night sky still.

She marks her world with soft blue touches

And leaves her sweetness there

And shadows of the sight of her

They flicker everywhere.

One aspect of the Goddess

A changing lovely thing,

A terrible strength

That binds the sands

Of being and everything.

And this I say

And hope it's well

And all that's there to say,

I hope she stays deep in my soul,

My life and all my days.

Comfortable

Comfortable.

Not Loving.

(Or so you tell me.)

"I'll go to America

When I win the lottery."

What difference does it make?

You stay because

You think there's nowhere else to go.

"But he's alright......"

(Said apologetically.)

"Really."

"It just got comfortable

And I'd been alone so long."

Gasmask

I've been walking over

Some of Gasmask old ground,

The red and black crosses

Flitter in the wind.

I stumbled on grass

And I staggered around

And lately I'm believing

It was his grave I found.

And the wind tore at my cloak

And my hair it did fly

And then I turned my haunted eyes

To the grey and stormy sky.

And in her eyes I saw the red and the gold

I saw the demon

And the damsel

And the dragons of old.

But I saw through the hatred

And I saw through the fear,

I saw the victim of a thousand hidden years.

And she was the fullness

And she was the dream,

she was the meaning,

The beauty I've seen.

And she is the circle

And she is the girl,

She is the candle

Her light is a world.

And I pulled close my folds

And I hid from her rain

And moved down the road

And loved her again

And he grunted his grunt

And he stirred in his grave

And the echoes of those other wars

Were sounding again.

The oppression of his buildings

And the order of his crime

Reached out to stifle

This dream that was mine.

The Fairy Glen (Multiple Poegasm Entry)

It bubbled forth an angered foam

That spewed through beaten rocks

And roared its hate across the stones

Their solidness to mock.

It saw my love and wanted her

So lightly did she play

The time I thought I'd lost my life

Upon a summers day.

The waters boiled blood red that day

And from the mountains came

A flood of doom and deathly rain

That coarsed the Fairy Glen.

We three were walking clifftop paths where

Soft fresh puddles lay,

Enchanted by the rivers wrath

Along its battered way.

And she, she ran and smiled and jumped

And cried aloud with glee

At corners turned

And fates discerned,

At wonders we did see.

And I was loving her just then

And all she meant to me,

A thousand days and more we'd shared

And thousands more to be.

Then I was searching through the trees

And she was nowhere near

Amongst the rivers fury screams

And I was cold with fear.

I called her name

And cried out loud

My loss,

And all we'd been

And held our baby to my breast

And still I heard her scream.

Then all our days had flown on by

And no more days to come,

The river had my love and I

Was helpless far above.

Ah sick as stone

And lost as breath

I searched that awful place,

For by chance she may have caught herself

Be clinging to the face

Of ragged rocks

All wet with rain

and calling out my name,

And desperate I

May find her there

And know her life again.

Then there oh Blessed

Across the way

She stood and smiled so free,

So innocent of terror

That had torn to peices me.

And I held her then

And shook with tears

Of joy and lost remorse

And what I feared had come to be

Had truly changed its course.

It seemed so real those screams I heard,

Her voice I know so well,

No sound within the waters surge

Those waters dark and fell.

The glen it seems is named in truth

And shame on those whose wont

Is torment, unconcerned, alloof,

Maliciousness ill spent.

But blessings too

On those folk who

Are wise and set to show

A fool like me

How small I'd be

If my love she was to go.

And that river there I heeded well

Its threat and spirits waste

And fled that deep and deathly place

And left its seeming spell.

And my love and I

We would deny

Desires and dreams as such,

But thank the grace

Of a spirits trace

That shows we love so much.

Dragon Hill

I stood upon the dragons head

That men had tried to tame

And looked upon the Dragonhill

And wondered at its name.

A horse that flamed

With serpent tongue

And horned was his head,

A figure lost in history long

That filled the folk with dread.

A warning sign to guard the sky

The beast upon the hill

That man bespies

And so denies

What dares to mock his will.

A little way across the down

A tomb of ancient kind

And reading mans brief diary there

Of what explains this place

I can't believe these things he writes

This shrinking from his race.

It states those folk were ignorant

No shame upon his face,

Old gods and smiths just waved on by

So sure in his disgrace.

Your spirit light

And greeting smile

Restless ragged

High and wild

What's the wind say

Wednesdays child?

And Here we are.

And here we are

In the ignorant acceptance of youth

Taking the moment as truth.

Trying to make a bright call

Feeling the way day to day

When time in its torturous way

Will humble the best of us all

And none of this fortune will stay,

None of this fortune will stay.

Sing to Me

Sing to me

With glinted eye

And squeeze my little hands,

Always wave as you go by

And always understand.

Make my day another time,

As many as you choose,

Never may you fade away

And never may you lose a thing

So great

So Fine

Questing Man is Listening

Questing man is listening

For his tread along the way

And true he cannot see the road

He's sure it's there today.

He's been searching through the centuries

In the hope of finding more

But the saddest thing about it is

He doesn't know what for.

Alas.

And every road he comes upon

Sets scholars down to talk

About importance in a circumstance

And the principle of fork.

Blind man does not worry

Even though he ends up dead

He knows that there will always be

Some others up ahead,

Seeking for an answer

To a question never voiced

And scratching heads at crossroads

Trying hard to make a choice.

So long as we keep moving

Instead of standing still

The questor will be happy

But the spectres never will.

The Flying Hippopotamus

I'm a flying hippopotamus

I never knew I could

Until I made myself some wings

Out of little bits of wood

And suddenly I found

Yes certainly I found

I'm not a hippopotamus

That lives on the ground!

Box

Hello there folks 'tis my delight

To give to you this springtime night

Some marvels great

To greet your sight and mind.

So If you know what jewels

To seek and find

Into my box of wonders peek

And take your pick of fancies there

From mystic tales to trinkets rare.

I've pearls of blue

And captured stars

Of spectrum hue

Within their jars

That shake with time

And fly through space

And shine upon

The dark Earths face.

Or if you take a second look

You might bespy a secret book

Whose pages read reveal the morn

Whose wordless leaves

Cannot be torn

And though they turn

With each sunrise

The reader finds and is surprised

The page has gone before their eyes

And learns this great and wondrous prize

Is timeless

And immortalized

And next if your bold questing holds

I've something here that sparkles gold,

Delicate and strong I'm told

I have within my box a soul.

Its owner may be known to you

Whose life's entangled ever new

Within this box that we here view.

It's yours but please be worried not

For in this marvel I have got

Is every life that ever was

And everything to be because

If you gaze down deep enough

You'll see two people just like us

And seeing so do not be shocked

To see them gaze into a box

That holds all life and death that is

And all that space is lies within

And all the days

And all the nights

And all the stars

Held in the heights

It's yours and mine this springtime night

So close the lid

And keep it tight.

The Sleeping Land

A good night people of the sleeping land

A far bright echo of the seeing land

I pray for vision

Am given sight

A time for wishing

This dark still night.

No signs are brought

That I can see

No wisdom taught

This purer me

This further thought

This half truth prism

That has to be.

Oh nothing!

I reach for you

With my all but rarely caught love

Ah brighter!

Ah purer form

Formless here.

Oh but if my love and I

Should venture there.

Frosted land

Moonlit land

Where frozen flowers in my hand

Would shatter at a touch.

No cold

Just wonder and love.

Ah what spells we would cast!

The Foresters of Will

The foresters of will

Washed up on a continent of grace,

A faraway place,

The hidden face

Of a grander scheme

Where meaning

Is a painting of a lovers eyes

A picture for living in newer skies

And swimming in a pool of us.

And the foresters have no power,

No persuasion

Anywhere here.

No matter what I say or do

Dragonbox

Dragonbox am I and bold

And of an honoured clan,

White dragon and pale red, black clouds

And gold is what I am.

Ancient in my form and craft

And fearsome to my foes,

Old as rock and deep as black

And still my legend grows.

Lightening for a sword have I

To strike a bitter blow

To any whose false words and lies

Do full and freely flow.

Vapours red and black indeed

To turn the cowards heart

And powers of the strength to bleed

Their courage from the start.

Dragonbox am I and proud

Strong paper binds my soul

To ancient words and chantings heard

That through the ages hold.

Devout in all my clans true wars

With words another spoke,

Here to roar and rage it out

Until his spell be broke.

Dragonboxes all are we

In this we have no shame,

Dragonbox is all we be

And ever be the same.

Fiecer in a battle none

And there shall never be

An enemy that does not yield

To dragonboxes we.

Labyrinth

Once inside the labyrinth

I remembered what I should do,

I tied my string to a stone

And began my journey.

I took the first turn left

And wandered searching

Through the maze.

Serpentine my path

And always could I hear

Rumours of war

And the tears of the poor

But nothing was truthfully seen.

(There a few truths in a labyrinth).

Until after many steps and turns

I came upon a sight I'd seen before;

A knotted string tied to a stone

Leading me into the darkness

I took hold of the chord

And began to follow that path

But to my despair

It took the first turn right.

Frog

If I was a frog

I would gribbit in the greenwood

I'd hop around on webby feet

And bulge my eyes for kicks

I'd winter in a muddy pit

And snore thick chunky bubbles

I'd tell Jack Frost

To go eat shit

And ignore him for his troubles.

To Flow with the River of Living

To flow with the river of living

Into the ocean of spirit,

Or as common deliverence would hold it,

Bestraggle the river of death.

Can you hear them thunder

All through the skies above

'pon great stallion chargers

With steaming fate filled breath?

And do you hear as they go by

The glory of their song

As their chariots wings draw spray

Up from the course they speed along?

And do they call a greeting call

To all upon the way,

To chill the heart

And turn the thoughts to play

Upon that dread filled day?

And do they turn and give word for you

Departing through the pain?

Say will there be another time

To pass this way again?

And as they smile and go from you

For sakes!

Do you implore,

Say will there be another time

To pass this way once more?

The Wreck of the Medusa

Though we've been here for many days

We're holding on and still we pray

For sight of land or distant sail

And our hope I fear to fail.

All  the holy cast their eyes

Into the depths we all despise

Their faith so strong is shaken now

What faith does ever this allow?

And all the world it still must lie

Around us all, beneath this sky.

People live in their own way,

Folk who never chance to stray.

And the many fail to speak

Limbs too frail

And hearts too weak,

Too afraid to mark the few

With words that have no use.

And how will words remember us,

Our battered hopes and bitter thoughts,

When our flesh has long since gone

Would they curse the deeds we've done?

And for the few who stay alive,

For the ones that may survive,

We have a chance with every breath

Or bane for those that dance with death.

Boat

The big boat had run aground

Pushed up the beach in the orange sand

And stopped

Half out of the water.

Dull metal stranded,

A door that would not open

For all its mass

And the cars on board would rot

Before they could ever hope to dig it out.

It lay there and groaned

At the pain of the tides

And after a decade

It could be seen

Half digested by the sand.

I would go there and was not sad

But filled with a memory

And a sickness unexplained

For I'd never been aboard

Or dared to gaze into a dusty port

And I never thought I should.

The birds avoided it

And so would I.

Treading Foot Shiftingly

Treading foot shiftingly

Over the threads of pattern,

Cautious

And at times

Casting no care

To the winds

That drive against the sails,

I can at times

If without warning,

Accidently as it where,

Look up and catch a glimpse

Or hear the echoes

Of a voice that was and is

And know a greeting call

Or a warning I should have known

Has passed my way

Joan of Ark

Joan of Ark

Has been a saint

For seventy one years now.

My little boy is walking.

He's bringing me a teddy smiling.

And the brothers Wright

Have long since gone flying.

Regardless of wings

I hope you understand

I hope you understand

My simple lack of words

But what words can be said

That I have to command?

We were turning apart

And a look of your eyes

Set a thousand kings horses

And men down to cry.

21 Apr 2007

Crow

Big black crow in my back yard

Took my bread and spat it out

His life is short

His eye is hard

But the fever's gone

The wound has scarred

It's good to hold

A splintered shard

And not to squeeze too tight

Hard Words

Hard words are spoken

That does little but to choke

A kindly moment

And in grieving for

The smiles before

My heart it does lament

So for gladness please

On days like these

Be easy and be free

And give a little softer word

A softer word to me

20 Apr 2007

Word

This is a word of power

Deep in the darkest depths of days

From in the desperate depths of black

And in the murky maze

And I will speak with all I have

And all that I have not

To draw the word and make it live

And weave a future's knot.

It's essence is in entity

That breathes with every life

And sings in every soul that yearns

To know it's spirit's worth,

It grows in every wish and will

And true full bidden word

That echoes down the stream of time

The tongue that bayed its birth

So, in all of speech is resonance

Eternal, filled with now

And a universe of influence

That all things do allow

And I will speak for all I am

And all that I am not,

Let forth a world to sow my world

And weave my future's knot

Silent Child

Whispers of the deep

Slow movement

Twilight at noon

Soft waters rise and fall

A call through the mist of all

Dark and hidden

A quiet that bids a dream of sleep

A lull that like a smoke does creep

Into the body of the day

And soaks the breath away

With promise wrapped

And warm and wild

And kept inside

The silent child

Moving On

There is nothing in this land that has not seen the springtime

There is no story we can throw away

These hills here growing grass among the footfolds we are treading

Will roll on we won't pass this way again

'cos we're moving on and on

Moving on and on

Each moment we are changing the songs we sing will never stay the same

There's something in the way we tread

The corners we are turning

That fills my heart afull with warming

As I hear my name

My name that she is calling

From the far place and the near one

And I know we'll never pass this way again

'cos we're moving on and on

Moving on and on

Each moment you are changing

It's hard but it's the way it's got to be

This land it grows and heaven knows

I hope it don't stop growing

And I hope that she can hear me just the same

And blessings be

On he and she

That's we

A blessing on they're growing

And adventure bright

And wondrous gifts to gain

A lesson plain

For all time

That around them all keeps flowing

For we will never come this way again

'cos we're moving on and on

Moving on and on

Each gift that we are sharing

And smiling bright at such a sight of lovely burden bearing

is something we forever keep

While through this land we're fairing

And having tried we know inside

We’re anywhere we're caring.

Toad

How far the floppy toads of March

With warty skin this ode embarks

To crawl through ditch

And muddy mire

'neath sodden skies

And dripping briar

To reach web footed

Grasp wet leaves

All damp and brown

Dismembered eaves

To hope for April's warmer days

And greener trees

This toad he prays.

20 Apr 2007

There is Distance

There is distance

There is time that's passed

There are things it's best to leave

When the days are catching up with you

And none can be retrieved

A silent world to comprehend

A life that lives to grieve

A sentence from a circumstance

That gives you no reprieve

And it's grim the hour that's granted

No gladness when it's due

Or when the time is able

But the precious words are few

So greet it all with grace to call

Each second into play

And speak to lovers sweetly

As they beckon you today.

20 Apr 2007

You could see it in a moment passing by

You could see it in a moment passing by

You could miss it in the blinking of an eye

You could touch it if you had not any hands

You could hear it in the signing of a sigh

And nowhere closer to the truth is anywhere you are

And you have just yourself for proof

No better proof by far

Each age is nearer to you now

Than ever could be thought

A light that seems so limited

By a span that seems so short

And always is the longest time

And never has no source

The centuries unpredictable

No chance to chart the course

So do not be lulled by histories

They're not so long ago

And nor are possibilities

And forests yet to grow

And spirits from the times that are

And places just the same

The layered vast eternities

The namer and the named

Look towards all time and now

To bless it all there is

And hold it in a circumstance

To mark it with a kiss
