About the place

Skouriotissa (Greek: Σκουριώτισσα) is a village in the Nicosia District of Cyprus and the site of the former Skourotissa mines. Today the area is largely uninhabited with few people remaining in the village. As of 2011 the village houses the headquarters of Sector 1 of the UNFICYP mission. The headquarters are currently assigned to an infantry unit from Argentina who is lead nation in Sector 1.

 

Monastery of Skouriotissa

From the ancient monastery of the village has remained only small temple inside the camp of the peacekeepers. 

In the Sixties, Father Ambrose has formed the Monastery of St. Seraphim of Sarov. Father Ambrose was a painter and has created here the iconography. The school belongs to the Metropolis of Morphou. extracts (from Andreas Chrysanthou "ΣΟΛΙΑ, past, present and future")
